A two-roll mill machine was used for the grafting of p-aminophenol (pAP) onto natural rubber (NR). The prepared NR graft p-aminphenol (NR-g-pAP) was characterized by 1 H NMR and IR spectroscopy techniques. The goal of this article is to study the effect of commercial antioxidants,, and the prepared NR-g-pAP, on the mechanical properties of acrylonitrile-butadiene (NBR) vulcanizates, the fluid compatibility of NBR vulcanizates, the hydraulic brake and clutch fluid dot, the diffusion out for NBR vulcanizate components, and the compression recovery of NBR vulcanizates. This study indicates that the NBR copolymer vulcanizate which contains the prepared NR-g-pAP has good protection against mechanical stress and the diffusion out of NBR vulcanizate components. The 6PPD and the prepared NR-g-pAP ameliorates the fluid compatibility of the oil seals, which is based on NBR as elastomer, and the hydraulic brake and clutch fluid dot.

para-Phenylene diamine was reacted with diethylmalonate and the product was reacted with acryloyl chloride to obtain the corresponding acrylamido malonanilide monomer. para-Nitro aniline was also reacted with acryloyl chloride to obtain the corresponding monomer. The two monomers were homopolymerized and then copolymerized. The obtained homopolymers and the copolymer were mixed with nitrocellulose and evaluated using thermal analysis and Bergmann-Junk techniques as propellant stabilizers in comparison with the common stabilizer, centralite 1. It was found that the homopolymer containing the p-nitro group is a superior stabilizer.

A novel polymeric antioxidant HTPB-IPDI-TPH was synthesized by the reaction between 2,2-thiobis (4-methyl-6-tert-butylphenol) (TPH) and an adduct (HTPB-IPDI) from hydroxyl terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) and isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI). The effects of raw materials ratio and the reaction condition were investigated by measuring the content of the residual -NCO groups of the reactants during the reaction. The structure of HTPB-IPDI-TPH was characterized by FTIR and 1 H NMR. Thermo-oxidative aging resistance of HTPB-IPDI-TPH was evaluated by oxidation induction time (OIT) from DSC of natural rubber vulcanizates. The optimal reaction conditions between IPDI and HTPB were that the amount of dibutyltin dilaurate (DBTDL) was 0.6 wt% based on IPDI, and the temperature and time were 40 C and 270 min, respectively. The reaction conditions between TPH and HTPB-IPDI were that the molar ratio of TPH to -NCO in HTPB-IPDI was 3:1, and the amount of DBTDL was 1.6 wt% based on the total of reactants, and the temperature and time were 75 C and 360 min, respectively. Thermo-oxidative aging resistance of HTPB-IPDI-TPH was obviously superior to the corresponding low molecular counterpart (TPH) for natural rubber vulcanizates.
