Acoustic source localization in mixed field using spherical microphone arrays

Abstract: Spherical microphone arrays have been used for source localization in three-dimensional space recently. In this paper, a two-stage algorithm is developed to localize mixed far-field and near-field acoustic sources in free-field environment. In the first stage, an array signal model is constructed in the spherical harmonics domain. The recurrent relation of spherical harmonics is independent of far-field and near-field mode strengths. Therefore, it is used to develop spherical estimating signal parameter via ro… Show more

“…In [188], the problem of localization of wideband sources in the NF of the sensor array has been addressed. Moreover, in [189], a two-step algorithm is developed to localize the mixed FF and NF acoustic sources using a N ′ -order spherical microphone array [190,191] in a free-field environment. The algorithm proposed in [189] can localize multiple wideband mixed-field sources.…”

“…The advantage of ESPRIT is its low computational complexity. Many researchers proposed improved methods for different arrays, such as Unitary ESPRIT (U-ESPRIT), Spherical harmonics ESPRIT (SHESPRIT), Two-stage decoupled approach (TSDA) and so on [11][12][13][14] is still insufficient compared to MUSIC algorithm. MUSIC algorithm has high estimation performance.…”

“…In this paper, a spherical array is used to track the moving sources in 3-D space because the array is 3D symmetric structure and can capture high-order sound field information [28][29][30]. Besides, comparing with linear array, spherical array can capture the twodimension information of signal rather than singleangle information.…”
