Les études de cas en psychothérapie connaissent une phase de renouveau auprès des chercheurs en psychothérapie et des psychothérapeutes. L’auteur discute de deux paradigmes qui ont grandement influencé ce nouvel intérêt : le paradigme pragmatique et le paradigme qui vise la construction d’une théorie. L’article présente les origines, les développements et les concepts clés des deux paradigmes et leurs spécificités méthodologiques et éthiques. Des exemples d’études de cas ou de modèles au sein des paradigmes sont évoqués. L’influence différentielle des courants postmodernes sur les deux paradigmes, et leurs apports respectifs dans le champ des méthodes d’études de cas, sont discutés et évalués par rapport aux implications pour le chercheur et le psychothérapeute.There is a renewal of interest among psychotherapy researchers and psychotherapists towards psychotherapy case studies. This article presents two paradigms that have greatly influenced this increasing interest in psychotherapy case studies : the pragmatic case study and the theory-building case study paradigm. The origins, developments and key-concepts of both paradigms are presented, as well as their methodological and ethical specificities. Examples of case studies, along with models developed, are cited. The differential influence of the post-modern schools on both paradigms are presented, as well as their contribution to the field of methods of psychotherapy case studies discussed and assessed in terms of relevance for the researcher and the psychotherapist.Los estudios de caso en psicoterapia conocen una fase de renovación entre los investigadores en psicoterapia y los psicoterapeutas. El autor discute los dos paradigmas que han influido grandemente en este nuevo interés: el paradigma pragmático y el paradigma que busca la construcción de una teoría. El artículo presenta los orígenes, desarrollos y conceptos clave de los dos paradigmas así como sus especificaciones metodológicas y éticas. Se evocan ejemplos de estudios de caso o de modelos en el seno de los paradigmas. Se discuten y evalúan la influencia diferencial de las corrientes postmodernas en los dos paradigmas y sus aportaciones respectivas en el campo de los métodos de estudios de caso, en relación con las implicaciones para el investigador y el psicoterapeuta.Os estudos de caso em psicoterapia conhecem uma nova fase junto a pesquisadores em psicoterapia e psicoterapeutas. O autor discute dois paradigmas que influenciaram em muito este novo interesse: o paradigma pragmático e o paradigma que visa a construção de uma teoria. O artigo apresenta as origens, os desenvolvimentos e os principais conceitos dos dois paradigmas e suas especificidades metodológicas e étnicas. “…Richness of information in linguistic details is often ignored by coding systems directing coders' attention to the lexical-symbolic level of meaning. (Kondratyuk & Peräkylä, 2011, p. 328) Although some authors correctly see CA closer to a natural science (Madill 2015, 502 f.), it is one of qualitative methods having something different to offer (Hill, 2011;McLeod, 2011;Williams & Morrow, 2009). It can be summed up in 4 points: a) they remain closer to many clinicians' lived experience, b) they allow to hear the voice of the client and the therapist, c) they offer frames of reference for the various experiences clients and therapists have, d) and they study the many facets of cooperation and its interruptions between participants in bringing to life what is called psychotherapy.…”

Independent of theoretical orientation therapies of all kind are talk-in-interaction. Influential overall conceptualizations (as e.g. intervention) belong to a certain model of medicalizing the psychotherapeutic endeavor. Talk-in-interaction is the base for applying Conversation Analysis (CA) in psychotherapeutic process research. CA is a powerful tool originating from social science taking data, hypotheses and theories from careful observing in a similar way as infant observers did. The common discovery is that conversation precedes language. Some features of infantile proto-conversation survive in adult life. CA has directed careful attention to processes like turn-taking, repair, conditional relevances, etc. in observing the rules of interaction. However, in studying psychotherapy process turn-by-turn analysis alone does not suffice. It can be completed by a new model of common ground activities and package-by-package analysis turning attention to new objects of observation in therapeutic conversation (allusions, metaphorical framing activities). We propose a methodology for both kinds of analyses based on transcribed examples from the CEMPP-Project. This exploratory designed project (Conversation analysis of empathy in Psychotherapy Process; supported by the Köhler Foundation, Germany) compared psychoanalytic, psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral treatments in five dyads each taking transcribed sessions from the beginning, the middle phase and the end; our database includes 45 transcribed sessions.
