Achieving both high electromechanical response and stable temperature behavior in Si/SiO2/Al/LiTaO3 sandwich structure

Abstract: In order to realize the following two goals including high electromechanical coupling coefficient (K2) and zero temperature coefficient of frequency (TCF) in a surface acoustic wave (SAW) device, the propagation characteristics of shear-horizontal type (SH-type) boundary waves in the Si/SiO2/Al/LiTaO3 “sandwich” structure are investigated by the three dimensional (3D) finite element method (FEM). The influences of layer SiO2 with different thickness (h) on the SH-type boundary waves characteristics, including … Show more

“…The thickness of the Si substrate is replaced by a finite depth of 5 wavelengths (λ) and a perfectly matched layer (PML) at the bottom with a thickness of 1 λ [31]. The PML gradually absorbs mechanical and electrical interference by segments before they reach the boundary, resulting in a smaller model size [36]. In addition, the spurious resonance introduced by reflections at the top and bottom can be suppressed.…”

“…The amplitude of κ determines the width of the stopband. The lower and upper frequencies of the stopband f s+ and f s− can be obtained by considering the zeros of the dispersion relation [28,29]. Then, we have:…”

“…Nowadays, most of the SAW sensors are made on the piezoelectric crystal, which brings about difficulties in the integration and miniaturization (Lu et al, 2013;Mimura et al, 2017). Using a multilayer structure to prepare the SAW sensor is considered one of the most promising techniques (Moulet et al, 2008;Maouhoub et al, 2016;Tian et al, 2016;Sun et al, 2019;Naumenko, 2020). Since the piezoelectric-on-silicon (POS) substrate bonds the piezoelectric thin film on a silicon wafer, this structure can efficiently reduce the SAW sensor's volume and weight (Abdolvand et al, 2008;Ali and Lee, 2016).…”
