Achieving Balanced Crystallinity of Donor and Acceptor by Combining Blade‐Coating and Ternary Strategies in Organic Solar Cells

Abstract: As a prototype tool for slot‐die coating, blade‐coating exhibits excellent compatibility with large‐area roll‐to‐roll coating. A ternary organic solar cell based on PBDB‐T:PTB7‐Th:FOIC blends is fabricated by blade‐coating and exhibits a power conversion efficiency of 12.02%, which is one of the highest values for the printed organic solar cells in ambient environment. It is demonstrated that blade‐coating can enhance crystallization of these three materials, but the degree of induction is different (FOIC > PB… Show more

“…A key difference between the batch and roll-to-roll processes is the time constraint in the roll-to-roll process. [34,37,39,40,42,[78][79][80][81][82] We found the record PCEs of slot-die coated PSCs have been surprisingly low, as shown in Figure 5d. Therefore, time-consuming processes, such as solvent soaking technique, cannot be used in the roll-to-roll process.…”

“…To investigate the role of fluorine on the microstructural morphology of the donor/acceptor blend, we first utilized the Flory–Huggins model via contact angle measurements to study the miscibility and interaction between the fluorinated and nonfluorinated materials . As shown in Figure and Table 2 , we obtained the values of the surface free energy (γ s ) from the contact angles on water and diiodomethane (DIM) of 38.74, 46.32, 32.86, and 44.03 mN m −1 for Y1, Y1‐4F, PBDB‐T, and PBDB‐T‐F, respectively.…”

“…Molecular chain stacking has an important influence on device performance, so the grazing‐incidence wide‐angle X‐ray scattering (GIWAXS) measurements of PTB7‐Th:PC 71 BM and PBDB‐T:ITIC films are performed, as shown in Figure e,f. The complete 2D, 1D scattering patterns are presented in Figure S7 in the Supporting Information.…”
