RESUMO Objetivo Caracterizar e comparar os testes comportamentais do processamento auditivo central de escolares das séries iniciais nas etapas, teste e reteste; e correlacionar as variáveis idade e gênero com os resultados destes testes. Método Estudo coorte, analítico, observacional, longitudinal e prospectivo; desenvolvido em uma escola da rede pública. Compuseram a amostra 36 escolares, subdivididos em dois grupos considerando a escolaridade: G1- 13 crianças do primeiro ano e G2- 23 crianças do segundo ano. Adotaram-se como critérios de inclusão: avaliação audiológica dentro dos padrões de normalidade e estar matriculado no primeiro ou segundo ano do ensino fundamental; e, como critérios de exclusão, presença de alterações neurológicas, cognitivas e comportamentais. A avaliação audiológica e a aplicação dos testes comportamentais do processamento auditivo central ocorreram em dois momentos distintos, com um intervalo de seis meses, denominados etapas teste e reteste. Resultados O teste com maior prevalência de alteração, em ambas as etapas e grupos, foi o Dicótico de Dígitos. Cabe ressaltar que nenhum escolar do G1 e alguns do G2 compreenderam o RGDT na etapa teste e que, mesmo após seis meses, esta dificuldade se manteve nos dois grupos. Na etapa reteste, notou-se melhora significante no desempenho dos escolares de ambos os grupos. Observou-se também, correlação entre a variável idade e o teste dicótico de dígitos na orelha esquerda, em ambas etapas. Conclusão Houve uma alta incidência de alteração nos testes e; se observou melhora no desempenho na etapa reteste, principalmente nos testes de localização sonora, dicótico de dígitos e RGDT.

Purpose: Analyze and correlate the auditory performance in the evaluation stage in the chosen software and electrophysiological responses pre and post computer-based auditory training. Methods: This is a longitudinal, comparative, clinical and experimental study, performed after the approval of the ethics committee. The sample consisted of seven children, aged 7 to 8 years and 11 months, from both genders, diagnosed with auditory processing disorder. The therapeutic intervention was based on the training with the Escuta Ativa  software and composed of 12 sessions, perforned twice a week, lasting approximately 30 minutes each. The score in the evaluation stage in the chosen software and the findings of the electrophysiological measurement on Long-Latency Potential Evoked Auditory, specifically P3 component, pre and post-training, were analyzed through an adequate statistical study. Results: Among the three stages of the evaluation by the software, there was no statistically significant post-training result. As for the P3 component, 3 out of the 4 children started to have it post-intervention therapy. In the search for correlation between behavioral and electrophysiological results, there was no statistical significance in either moments of the evaluation. Conclusion: It was not possible to verify a significant difference between the pre and post-training periods in the evaluation stage of the software itself, showing the need for further studies to verify the use of this evaluation tool in a clinical setting. An effect of post-training plasticity with the appearance of P3 component was noted in some children. There was no correlation between the evaluation steps by the software and the electrophysiological measurement. RESUMOObjetivo: Analisar e correlacionar o desempenho auditivo na etapa de avaliação existente no software escolhido e respostas eletrofisiológicas pré e pós-treinamento auditivo computadorizado. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo longitudinal, comparativo, clínico e experimental, realizado após aprovação do comitê de ética. A amostra foi composta por sete crianças, com idade entre 7 anos e 8 anos e 11 meses, de ambos os gêneros, diagnosticadas com transtorno do processamento auditivo. A intervenção terapêutica foi baseada no treinamento com o software Escuta Ativa  e composta por 12 sessões, realizadas duas vezes por semana, com duração aproximada de 30 minutos cada. Analisou-se a pontuação nas etapas de avaliação existente no software escolhido e os achados da medida eletrofisiológica potencial evocado auditivo de longa latência, especificamente o componente P3, pré e pós-treinamento, por meio de estudo estatístico adequado. Resultados: Dentre as três etapas de avaliação pelo software, não houve resultado estatisticamente significativo pós-treinamento. Quanto ao componente P3, 3 das 4 crianças com ausência do componente passaram a tê-lo, pós-intervenção terapêutica. Background: The HTLV-1-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP) is the most common neurological manifestation associated with Human T-cell Lymphotropic Virus type-1 (HTLV-1) infection. Although cognitive impairment has been highlighted in the spectrum of HTLV-1 neurological manifestations, it may go unnoticed in those who do not spontaneously report it. We aimed at evaluating the applicability of a self-perceived memory score (SMS) and the cognitive event-related potential (P300) for the early detection of cognitive impairment in HTLV-1-infected people.Methods: The SMS was measured by a 0-10 visual analog scale combined with a sad-happy faces rating scale. The higher the number, the better was the SMS. The P300 was obtained through an oddball paradigm with a mental counting task. The participants were 15(21,4%) individuals with HAM/TSP, 20(28,6%) HTLV-1-asymptomatic carriers, and 35(50%) seronegative controls.Results: SMS (p<0.001) and P300 latency (p<0.001) got progressively worse from asymptomatic to HAM/TSP. A SMS <7.2 points and a P300 latency >369.0 milliseconds were considered as altered result and indicated cognitive impairment. The HAM/TSP group showed the highest prevalence of altered P300 (80%) and SMS (87%). Interestingly, the asymptomatic group also presented signi cant higher prevalence of altered SMS (60%) and P300 (35%) when compared to controls (<10%). The frequency of cognitive impairment was 16 times higher in the asymptomatic group and 69 times higher in the HAM/TSP group when compared to controls. Conclusion:The use of SMS in the medical consultation was a useful and easy-to-apply method to screen HTLV-1 infected subjects for everyday memory complaints. BackgroundThe rst descriptions of the neurological disease associated with HTLV-1 infections were based on the motor function assessed by mobility and strength disability [1, 2]. The HTLV-1 associated myelopathy / tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP) is a chronic, slow-progressing neurological in ammatory disease that affects approximately 4% of the infected individuals [3, 4]. However, the prevalence of neurological disorders that do not meet the criteria for de nite HAM/TSP, such as urinary disorders, sexual dysfunction and skin lesions, can occur in around 30% of those individuals classi ed as HTLV-1-asymptomatic carriers [4][5][6]. In fact, non-medullary symptoms have been neglected in the HTLV-1 infection [7].Recent evidences have showed that HTLV-1 is related to a complex of neurological manifestations that are not limited to the clinical spectrum of HAM/TSP, affecting all the segments of the central nervous system to a greater or lesser extent [3,[8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18].
