The objective of this study was to identify factors related to the place of fi rst choice for the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis. A descriptive quantitative study was conducted in Natal/RN, throughout February/September 2012 with 60 individuals diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis that responded a questionnaire. Data were analyzed by the Chi-square and Fisher test. The factors associated to the place of fi rst choice were: having had previous contact with the disease (p=0,04); the person's awareness of the disease (p=0,018) and having had previous care at the health service unit of choice (p=0,002). It is concluded that intrinsic and extrinsic factors may infl uence the individual's fi rst choice of a place for care and diagnosis of diseases. It is important that nurses promote actions related to these factors, for the enhancement of early diagnosis of tuberculosis through case fi nding and access to the primary care unit thereby reducing the demand for emergency services. RESUMOObjetivou-se identifi car os fatores associados à escolha do primeiro local para o atendimento e diagnóstico da tuberculose. Estudo descritivo, quantitativo, realizado em Natal, RN, entre fevereiro e setembro de 2012, com 60 indivíduos diagnosticados com tuberculose pulmonar que responderam a um questionário. Os dados foram analisados através dos testes Qui-Quadrado e Fisher. Os fatores associados à escolha foram: o contato anterior com a doença (p=0,040); alerta das pessoas sobre a doença (p=0,018); e o serviço de saúde ser o geralmente procurado antes da doença (p=0,002). Conclui-se que fatores intrínsecos e extrínsecos ao sujeito com tuberculose podem infl uenciar na escolha do local para o atendimento e diagnóstico. Torna-se necessário que os enfermeiros promovam ações relacionadas a esses fatores, favorecendo o diagnóstico precoce da tuberculose através da intensifi cação da busca ativa, a procura da unidade básica de saúde e a redução do fl uxo de procura pelos serviços de urgência. ResumoA goma de mascar, popularmente conhecida como chiclete, é um resíduo que não tem a devida atenção, principalmente com relação à sua disposição final. Esse resíduo é depositado diariamente nas ruas e calçadas, causando danos ambientais e econômicos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar uma forma de coleta e reciclagem adequada para a goma de mascar, procurando identificá-la como um resíduo e não como um rejeito, segundo a Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos, lei nº 12.305 de 2 de agosto de 2010 (BRASIL, 2010). Realizou-se um estudo de caso no Centro Universitário Metodista Izabela Hendrix, Campus Praça da Liberdade, em Belo Horizonte, MG, onde se instalaram, em alguns locais, coletores de goma de mascar e, com o material coletado, confeccionou-se uma estátua em formato de árvore demonstrando a viabilidade de uso de tal resíduo e estimulando a comunidade acadêmica a respeito do potencial de reciclagem e sobre gerenciamento dos resíduos em geral. Palavras-chave:Resíduos sólidos; Reciclagem; Goma de mascar. AbstractChewing gum popularly known as gum is a waste that does not have enough attention especially with regard to its disposal. It is daily deposited in the streets and sidewalks causing environmental and economic damage. The objective of this work was to study the form of collection and proper recycling for chewing gum trying to identify it as waste and not as tailing according to the National Solid Waste Policy, Law No. 12.305, August 2nd, 2010 (BRASIL, 2010. We conducted a case study in the Izabela Hendrix Methodist University Center, Praça da Liberdade Campus, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais state, Brazil, where chewing gum collector boxes were settled in some places and a statue in the form of a tree was made with the material collected. This demonstrates the feasibility of the use of such waste and stimulates academic community about the potential of recycling and about management of waste in general.

Qualidade de vida de indivíduos com a coinfecção HIV/tuberculose no município de Ribeirão Preto -SPand recent use of anti-retroviral therapy, different from serum-positive patients which presented better clinics indexes and use of ARV for a longer time. The most common clinic form of TB was the lung one, but with high levels of extra lung ones. In the assessment of quality of life, co-infected people showed lower average scores than those non-co-infected in all levels, with important difference in Physical, Psychological, Level of Independence and Social Relations. The values of social support were intermediate, but with wide range of scores; there was some association between social support and nearly all levels of quality of life, with exception of spirituality. Conclusions: The large number of co-infected patients with low socio-economic level stressed the narrow relation of double infection with social exclusion, showing TB and HIV/AIDS as diseases with a magnitude that transcends biological barriers. Quality of life of people carrying HIV/TB co-infection was worse than those serum-positive without TB in all levels. Social support has an important role in soothing negative consequences of stressing events, and it may minimize the effect of prejudice on both diseases and influencing in a direct way the quality of life of a co-infected person. Introducción: La tuberculosis (TB) es la infección oportunista más común asociada con el VIH / SIDA, su asociación con el VIH afecta la vida de una persona de una manera negativa, tanto en los aspectos psicosociales y biológicos. La debilidad física, relacionada con el estigma y la discriminación contra las dos enfermedades pueden conducir al aislamiento social y la restricción de las relaciones, perjudicando el mantenimiento de la red de apoyo social y calidad de vida de las personas con coinfección TB / VIH. Objetivo: Evaluar la calidad de vida de las personas con coinfección VIH / tuberculosis y comparar la calidad de vida de las personas seropositivas para el VIH. Materiales y Métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, con el corte transversal, realizado mediante entrevistas con seropositivos para el VIH y com coinfectados VIH / TB sometidos a seguimiento ambulatorio en Ribeirão Preto; se utilizó el WHOQOL bref VIH, Inventario de Apoyo Social para Personas que Viven con el VIH / SIDA y instrumento de las características socioeconómicas. Resultados: participaron 115 personas VIH positivas, 57 de ellos coinfectados con tuberculosis y 58 no-coinfectado. La mayoría eran hombres, heterosexuales, sobre todo en sus 40's años, con los coinfectados presentan educativos y los ingresos inferiores a que otros. Alrededor de un tercio de los afectados por la TB activa recientemente se enteró de su condición de VIH, la mayoría de las cifras presentadas por los linfocitos T CD4 por debajo de 200 células/mm3 y el uso reciente de la terapia antirretroviral, a diferencia de los pacientes VIH-positivos que tenían mejores índices de clínicas y el uso de antirretrovirales durante un tiem...
