Noise pollution is a frequent issue in urbanized environments. Standard environmental noise in populated areas can range from 30-80 dB. Recently, wireless sensor networks have received significant attention because of their ubiquitous nature and their vast utilization. wireless sensor networks are extremely dynamic and flexible, and they are being used in virtually every type of environment, including urban, countryside, or suburban areas. This paper investigates environmental noise sensing and provides a comprehensive review of the state-of-art technology used in the Internet of Things and wireless sensor networks for noise sensing. The primary objective of this study is to provide more detailed information about environmental noise sensing. More specifically, the challenges and issues related to noise sensing are identified and examined, while recommendations for future research and development are also presented.
