The emission spectra of thermally stimulated surface plasmon polaritons (thermally stimulated surface plasmon polaritons) and a blackbody have been analyzed and compared, and the temperature dependence of these spectra has been studied. It has been found that the total energy of the entire ensemble of surface plasmons is proportional to the cube of temperature and their spectrum is red-shifted from the blackbody spectrum. It has been shown that the spectrum of thermally stimulated surface plasmon polaritons obeys the Wien's displacement law, yet with another constant. The fraction of the photon energy of the conducting layer transferred to the surface plasmons has been estimated. It has been demonstrated numerically by the example of a gold layer that this fraction can exceed 10% for a layer thickness of less than 1 mm.

Описаны общие свойства плоских и цилиндрических поверхностных электромагнитных волн (ПЭВ), комбинации электромагнитной волны и колебаний зарядов в проводнике (последние называются поверхностными плазмон-поляритонами -ППП), распространяющихся вдоль границы проводника с диэлектриком, в широком спектральном диапазоне от СВЧ до видимого света. В последние годы интенсивно развивается фотоника терагерцового диапазона, в которой поверхностные электромагнитные волны могут играть важную роль в схемотехнике, транспортировке излучения и прохождении излучения через субволновые отверстия. Нами выведено общее выражение для толщины скин-слоя в металлах в приближении Друдэ и вычислены длины пробегов и «толщины» ПЭВ в металлах и воздухе в зависимости от длины волны. Теоретическая длина пробега ПЭВ при переходе от видимого к субмиллиметровому (терагерцовому) диапазону возрастает от десятков микрон до нескольких метров, а толщина волны достигает нескольких миллиметров. Это обстоятельство позволяет использовать ПЭВ для транспортировки терагерцового излучения и исследования свойств поверхностей, а также дает возможность использовать мощные ПЭВ для ряда приложений, таких как обработка поверхностей, создание поверхностной плазмы и т. п. Подавляющее большинство современных экспериментов с ПЭВ в терагерцовом диапазоне выполнены с использованием маломощных источников широкополосного излучения с длительностью импульса, не превышающей одной пикосекунды. Из обзора этих работ следует, что их результаты весьма противоречивы, и альтернативные исследования с источниками другого типа являются крайне необходимыми. Обсуждается вопрос об экспериментах по исследованию захвата и распространения ПЭВ, а также спектроскопических измерениях, с использованием мощного, монохроматического, плавно перестраиваемого терагерцового излучения Новосибирского лазера на свободных электронах (ЛСЭ).* Работа частично поддержана Программой фундаментальн х исследований № П-05 Президиума РАН, интеграционным грантом СО РАН № 174/06 и грантом Министерства образования науки РФ № 2.1.1.3846.

In the given paper, the dispersion properties of surface electromagnetic waves at a plane interface between a homogeneous medium (vacuum) and a layered periodical structure, consisting of alternating layers of ferrite and a semiconductor, placed in an external magnetic field are studied. This structure is considered in the subwavelength approximation. To describe the dielectric and magnetic properties of the material under consideration, the effective medium theory has been applied. The material parameters have been described by means of effective components of the permittivity and permeability. It was found that in a certain range of frequencies and magnitudes of external magnetic fields, in such a structure the existence of surface electromagnetic waves occur, both TM and TE polarized. Due to the peculiarities of the structure under consideration it is possible to effectively control the parameters of surface waves.
