Abstract: Many terms could answer the question, “Who was Abraham Lincoln?” Husband, father, president, emancipator and martyr are appellations attached to the sixteen president. Rarely, however, is griever mentioned and rarely have Lincoln's accumulated losses been examined through a thanatological lens.
