Above-ground biomass equations for Pinus radiata D. Don in Asturias

Abstract: Aim of the study: The aim of this study was to develop a model for above-ground biomass estimation for Pinus radiata D. Don in Asturias.Area of study: Asturias (NE of Spain). Material and methods: Different models were fitted for the different above-ground components and weighted regression was used to correct heteroscedasticity. Finally, all the models were refitted simultaneously by use of Nonlinear Seemingly Unrelated Regressions (NSUR) to ensure the additivity of biomass equations.Research highlights: A sy… Show more

“…The structure of the fitted estimation model has been mainly used for estimating total aboveground biomass (Moore, 2010) and stem wood and bark biomass (Canga et al 2013), not only for P. radiata but also for other species (Ter-Mikaelian & Korzukhin, 1997), and a good fit for estimating potential harvest residue biomass at individual tree level has been observed.…”

“…Several studies have fitted biomass estimation models at individual tree level at the local and regional scale (Canga et al 2013, Jenkins et al 2003, Merino et al 2003Moore, 2010;Rodríguez et al 2003;. However, few are those that after scaling biomasses up to stand level for P. radiata fit estimation models at this scale (Bi et al 2010;Corvalán & Hernández, 2011).…”

“…In this method, different mathematical equations, with different independent variables and weights, were used for each tree biomass component (Canga et al, 2013). The additivity was guaranteed by setting restrictions on the equation coefficients (Canga et al, 2013). Since we were dealing with a system of nonlinear equa-5…”
