A vision of flexible dispatchable hybrid solar‐wind‐energy storage power plant

Abstract: Dispatchable renewable generation is essential for 100% renewables power system. It is in the interest of both power system operators and customers since it reduces the need for flexibility and reserve. To this end, battery energy storage systems (BESS) are proposed for integration in the renewable power plant. This paper presents the optimal dispatch unit for a dispatchable hybrid solar-wind power plant with BESS framework. It achieves optimal dispatchable renewable generation (from dispatchable hybrid renewa… Show more

“…Equations ( 13) and ( 14) show the DC power flow through the TS lines constraint, which, if a transmission line is off, these constraints are valid regardless of the values for the respective bus angles. The power flow limits with TS are pre-sented in (15). In fact, when a line is opened, no power flows through it.…”

“…The total installed capacity of BESs is expected to grow to 100 to 167 GWh by 2030 globally [14]. Two appreciable applications of BESs are managing the uncertainty of wind power production [15] and reducing transmission congestion [16]. BESs store the excess energy generated at off-peak load times and discharge rapidly at peak times during peak electricity demand.…”

“…The HTF transfers the heat energy to the PB to generate high-temperature steam to drive the steam turbine to do work, and at the same time store a part of the heat energy in the TES, so that the CSP plant has good dispatching characteristics, which is also an advantage compared with photovoltaic power generation. The thermal energy received by SF of CSP plants is defined in Equations ( 33) and (34). Equations ( 35)-( 40) are operational constraints of TES.…”
