A UV spectrophotometric method for the determination of folic acid in pharmaceutical tablets and dissolution tests

Abstract: Folic acid (FA) or pteroyl-L-glutamic acid, chemically known as N-[4-[[(2-amino-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-6pteridinyl)methyl]amino]benzoyl]-L-glutamic acid, is a water-soluble B vitamin that helps build healthy cells. In this study, a new, simple, easy, accurate, precise, economic and sensitive UV spectrophotometric method for the determination of folic acid in commercial tablets and during dissolution tests is presented. Using a phosphate buffer solution at pH 9.0 it was possible to determine the concentration of fol… Show more

“…It was mixed well, left for 2 hrs and then 10 mL of ethanol was added to the mixture. Absorbance was taken at 282 nm which was then used to calculate the quantity of folic acid with the help of standard curve made by using different concentration of ethanol [29].…”

“…UV spectroscopy has been widely used in the pharmaceutical industry for the assessment of API potency, dissolution testing of dosage forms, and cleaning validation in a laboratory environment (15,16). Traditionally this is done by bringing manually prepared samples to UV spectrometer or by interfacing the UV detector with a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) equipment.…”
