The impact of customer retrial phenomenon due to impatient users in call admission control (existing and proposed) based voice/data integrated system has been modelled, analyzed, and explored. The main aim of this research work is to find the actual situation of system performance in the presence of retrial phenomena and to show unambiguously that the retrial phenomena due to impatient users do degrade the performance, i.e., QoS (qualityof-service) of the system and this paper quantitatively measures and shows/presents this degradation mainly using plots/graphs. Previously the retrial phenomenon was investigated by other researchers using very simplified models with almost no call admission control schemes (CACS). The novelty of this paper is that it has done the work by integrating almost all the major and effective tools and techniques together with two state-of-the-art or cutting edge CACSs, namely -DTBR (Dual Threshold Bandwidth Reservation) scheme, and DP (Dynamic Partition) scheme that can deal with multidimensional traffic in voice/data integrated cellular networks. Retrial phenomenon is incorporated in DTBR and DTBRRCD (DTBR with Reserved Channel for Data) schemes. DTBRRCD is a DP-like DTBR scheme which is proposed to extend or modify DTBR to give data priority. CACS are used to ensure maximum user support with minimum bandwidth, i.e., much improved channel efficiency and at the same time to give QoS (quality-of-service) assurance for each type of traffic. This paper integrated queuing model and approximate continuous time Markov chain (CTMC). Approximate CTMC was used to prevent "state-space explosion" in the case of large user populations.

Abstract:The aim of the discrete simulation framework is to deal with issues of the next generation of wireless cellular networks (e.g., multimedia traffic, radio resource management and mobility… etc) and to provide a platform for current and future investigations involving wireless cellular networks. The simulator is built from the scratch to enable customization requirements of any research and to provide the freedom to understand, configure protocol modules, draw desired topologies and specifies the movement paths of the mobile users and to plot the necessary performance graphs. In order to evaluate and validate the performance of the designed simulator, a simulation model for the wireless cellular network and mobile environment deployed. The performance of the developed simulator compared with the performance characteristics of existing algorithms. Simulation results verify the developed simulator is able to recapture the results of both the numerical result and simulation results of the comparative system utilizing an idealistic platform. In addition the simulator incorporates detail algorithms for the correlated components between the entities of the cellular networks and the development of the discrete simulator.

Next generation of wireless cellular networks aim at supporting a diverse range of multimedia services to Mobile Terminal (MT) with guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS). The challenge is to maintain the playing continuity of multimedia streams during handoff. In this paper, a bandwidth reservation scheme based on mobility prediction is proposed, to enable high accurate prediction of next crossing cell (target cell) which a MT is going to, in order to avoid too early or over reservation resulting in a waste of resources. The amount of bandwidth to be reserved is dynamically adjusted according to (a) the current position (location) and the extrapolated direction of MT and; (b) the sector and zones of the cell. A Call Admission Control scheme (CAC) is also considered to further guarantee the QoS of real time traffic. The performance of the system is evaluated through discrete event simulation of the wireless cellular environment. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme as compared to several existing schemes is able to reduce the Handoff Call Dropping Probability (HCDP) of real time traffic and the number of terminated ongoing calls of non-real time traffic. In addition, it is efficient to reduce the number of cancelled reservation and subsequently increase the system bandwidth utilization.
