A tool to assure the geographical origin of local food products (glasshouse tomatoes) using labeling with rare earth elements

In the case of products from conventional agriculture, it is expected that the elemental composition will comply with that of the commercially available substrate of the plants. Therefore, for products without a direct relationship with the regional soil the region‐specific differences in elemental composition are no longer recognizable. The idea of this work is the labeling of tomatoes with rare eart… Show more

“…Thus, many aspects such as microbial control and disclosure of food information (food labeling) should be regulated to ensure comprehensive food safety (AIB International, ; British Retail Consortium [BRC], ). The purpose of food safety management, apart from ensuring health by preventing food poisoning and foodborne diseases, is upholding consumer rights and choices, encouraging fair food trade, and preventing inter‐country disputes regarding food exports by ensuring information disclosure on food products’ origins or ingredients (Bandoniene, Meisel, Rachetti, & Walkner, ; Creydt & Fischer, ; MAFRA & Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries [MOF], ; Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs [MAFRA], , , 2018; Park, Kim, You, You, Kim, et al, ; Zannella et al, ).…”

“…The issue of labeling the geographic origin of foods is not only a concern for Korea, since it is directly related to the economic value of food items; it is related to the issue of food fraud, a cause of conflicts between nations. Several international studies have been conducted to track down food origins or to prevent food frauds (Bandoniene, Meisel, Rachetti, & Walkner, 2018;Creydt & Fischer, 2018;Zannella et al, 2017). The Act on Origin Labeling of Agricultural and Fishery Products regulates food origin labeling in foodservice businesses, the basic units of the food franchise system (MAFRA, 2017;Park et al, 2015).…”
