A Thin Film of an Ni–NiO Heterogeneous System for an Optical Recording Medium

Abstract: The authors have found a write once read many (WORM) type new optical recording medium of an Ni–NiO heterogeneous system thin film. The structure of the recording medium is a single layer Ni–NiO heterogeneous thin film on a transparent resin substrate. Irradiation of a converged laser diode beam causes a volume expansion of the film to form a swell. Information reading is done by using its reduction in reflectivity. The recordable composition region of this film is considered to be the transitive region from t… Show more

“…Transparent conducting oxides have attracted tremendous interest recently because of their importance in many potential applications such as electrodes in solar cells, 1 in molten carbonate fuel cells, 2 or as heterogeneous optical recording media. 3 Most of the transparent conducting oxides under development are n-type semiconducting materials. Unfortunately, high conductivity limits their transmissivity in the infrared (IR) region.…”

“…In the 1990s, new n-type TCO materials consisting of multicomponent oxides have been developed such as Zn 2 SnO 4 [8], MgIn 2 O 4 [9], CdSb 2 O 6 : Y [10], ZnSnO 3 [11], GaInO 3 [12], Zn 2 In 2 O 5 [13] and In 4 SnO 12 [14]. Also, p-type conductivity has been discovered recently in materials such as CuAlO 2 [15][16][17][18], CuGaO 2 [15,19,20], SrCu 2 O 2 [15,21,22], CuScO 2 [23], CuYO 2 : Ca [24], (La 1−x Sr x O) CuS [25], CuCr 1−x Mg x O 2 [26], ZnO:(Ga, N) [27][28][29] and NiO : Li [30][31][32]. Therefore, the use of n-type and p-type TCOs in the fabrication of active elements in optoelectronic devices as transparent p-n junctions is possible [26,33,34].…”

“…7 Due to its relatively high electrical conductivity and infrared transparency, NiCo 2 O 4 has been developed as an alternative electrode material for supercapacitors [10][11][12] and used as a heterogeneous optical recording media. 13 Moreover, the electrochemical properties have been studied widely in alkaline medium for the oxygen evolution reaction. The preparation methods include thermal decomposition, 5,14 solution deposition, 15 combinatorial sputtering deposition, 16 single-target sputter deposition, 16 and hydroxide coprecipitation, 17 etc.…”
