“…Previously, intentional reimplantation was considered by many to be a treatment of last resort (Greiner & Hawkins 1991) and viewed as 'one of the most unreliable procedures in the dental field' (Weine 1980). The high survival rate of dental implants is one of the reasons for intentional reimplantation being overlooked as a viable treatment option for maintaining a tooth (Mainkar 2017). However, more recent evidence, where stringent treatment protocols based on improved understanding of root resorption and splint protocols, has confirmed that intentional reimplantation is more predictable than previously thought, and as such, is a viable treatment option in certain cases (Torabinejad et al 2015, Cho et al 2016, Becker 2018.…”

“…43 Although intentional replantation is considered as a last resort treatment option, the treatment was reported to have a 90% F I G U R E 1 A patient with stabilized periodontal condition on a significantly reduced periodontium under supportive periodontal therapy. 46 The success of this procedure is influenced by several factors including the extent of periodontal disease and the presence of root fracture. 43 Between 6 and 12 months, the survival rate decreased from 85% to 80%, and after 48 months, the survival rate of replanted teeth stabilized.…”

“…The teeth are not mobile, and there are no periodontal pockets or active disease success rates in the first 6 months. 46,47 Although the survival rates of replanted teeth do not compete with those of the classic periodontal treatment and endodontic treatment, the survival is notably high and is a conservative option that may be viable for some patients. [43][44][45] A meta-analysis of 6 studies also showed a high success rate of 89.1% of intentionally replanted teeth.…”
