A systematic review of amino acid PET in assessing treatment response to temozolomide in glioma

Abstract: The response assessment in neuro-oncology (RANO) criteria have been the gold standard for monoitoring treatment response in glioblastoma (GBM) and differentiating tumor progression from pseudoprogression. While the RANO criteria have played a key role in detecting early tumor progression, their ability to identify pseudoprogression is limited by post-treatment damage to the blood-brain barrier (BBB), which often leads to contrast-enhancement on MRI and correlates poorly to tumor status. Amino acid positron emi… Show more

“…104 Glioma is the most common malignant intracranial tumor. 105 Wnt/β-catenin pathway is the main signaling pathway for ionizing radiation-induced glioblastoma cell invasion. Inhibition and stimulation of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway can affect the cell cycle, thereby reducing the proliferation and survival of U87 glioma cells.…”

“…Dynamic TAC patterns are helpful for diagnostic and prognostic purposes, particularly in distinguishing progression from TRC. 44 Bevacizumab is an antiangiogenic chemotherapy drug targeting circulating vascular endothelial growth factor and lowering cerebrovascular permeability. It is an adjunctive therapy in recurrent HGGs and significantly reduces contrast enhancement, underestimating residual tumor evaluation.…”

“…It has been shown that the amino acid uptake is increased in tumors at progression but not in brain areas of treatment-related changes [26]. For example, 18 F-fluoroethyltyrosine ( 18 F-FET) could facilitate the detection of PsP because 18 F-FET uptake is significantly lower in patients with PsP than in those with true progression [27].…”
