A Systematic Mapping on Discovery and Composition Mechanisms for Systems-of-Systems

Abstract: Systems-of-systems (SoS) represent a class of systems resulted from the interaction among independent systems that cooperate to form a larger and more complex system aiming at accomplishing global missions. An inherent characteristic of SoS is the high heterogeneity of their constituent systems, which are distributed, independent, and developed with different technologies. In addition, SoS are highly dynamic, so that their constituents are often partially known or even unknown at design time. As a consequence,… Show more

“…Overall, one can see that the SoS characterization in general focuses on the interactions and relationships between its constituent systems and their management rather than characterizing the constituent systems themselves. 24,25 In the SoS literature, the major challenges focus 32 and modeling production industries in 33 ). In order to model SoS, a Unified Modeling Language (UML) profile has been developed for DoDAF and MoDAF (UPDM).…”

“…These dimensions seem to relate to organisations, management, and enterprise (multi-organisational) relationships. More specifically, Dagli et al (2013) (Chattopadhyay et al, 2009;Gomes et al, 2015) also considers the notion of capability. For example, Gomes et al (2015) define a capability as "A capability the ability of a system to provide a given functionality by performing a set of tasks" and point out the importance of capabilities in discovering and composing constituent systems within a SoS.…”

“…Os sistemas constituintes concretos a integrarem um SoS em tempo de execução frequentemente são conhecidos de forma parcial ou mesmo desconhecidos quando do projeto desse SoS. Com isso, os sistemas constituintes devem ser descobertos, selecionados e integrados em tempo de execução para que sejam identificados os arranjos adequados desses sistemas que contribuem para alcançar os objetivos gerais do SoS com base em suas capacidades [Gomes et al 2015].…”
