PurposeA region can be registered as a geographical indication (GI) when its human or natural characteristics influence product attributes. However, GI registration is a complex process that can lead applicants to conflicts and resource waste. Since metabolomics can support product typicality, it can be an effective tool to evidence the place-product link, essential for GI registration. With the aim of increasing GI registration efficiency, this research aimed to map the Brazilian GI registration process from end to end, using business process model and notation (BPMN), and evaluate the application of metabolomics techniques as facilitator.Design/methodology/approachA qualitative exploratory study was proposed, with the Brazilian GI registration process as unit of analysis. Primary data was obtained through twelve in-depth interviews with GI producers, members of supporting institutions and metabolomics experts. Based on the collected data, the complete GI registration map was designed with bpmn.io software.FindingsResults provided a clear view of the GI registration process. Interviewees considered the selection of the appropriate GI category, the establishment of GI common rules, product specification and the confirmation of the place-product link as the most demanding requirements. Since the last two involve specifying the influence of the origin on products, the use of metabolomics was suggested as a powerful tool to complete these stages.Research limitations/implicationsThe theoretical contribution is provided by the interweave of the three scientific fields mentioned (GI, business process management (BPM) and metabolomics) to contribute to the still small body of literature on GI-related processes. Additionally, other theoretical contributions are the presentation of a GI registration map associated to the use of “omics” techniques as process facilitator.Practical implicationsThe practical contribution of this work is the establishment of an end-to-end view of the entire GI registration process, which makes easier for applicants to engage, plan resources and achieve the GI label. Furthermore, metabolomics acts as a facilitator since its data can be used for different purposes on the way to GI registration.Social implicationsResults can be used to facilitate GI registration, reducing resources demanded from applicants. GI labels provide product protection, better selling prices and competitive advantages for producers, which are positive outcomes in countries with a commodity-based economy like Brazil.Originality/valueThe originality of the study lies in the approach used to map the GI registration process, as well as the suggestion of metabolomics as facilitator in some of its stages.

Business Process Modeling (BPM) adalah representasi visual berbasis data untuk memodelkan alur kerja bisnis untuk mengoptimalkan proses bisnis. Notasi BPM membuat model mudah dipahami oleh semua pemangku kepentingan yang berperan dalam mengembangkan proses bisnis. Makalah ini akan menjelaskan penerapan BPM dalam alur kerja Electronic Data Capturer (EDC) Monitoring Application (EDCMA). Proses pemodelan alur kerja menggunakan perangkat lunak Bonitasoft yang mencakup pembuatan proses bisnis untuk antarmuka pengguna dan mesin proses. EDCMA merupakan proses untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan pada proses perbaikan terminal EDC dan pengajuan sebagai merchant baru. Berdasarkan prosedur manual EDCMA yang ada, model proses EDCMA yang baru menggunakan bentuk elektronik dan pemrosesan semi-otomatis yang mengimplementasikan beberapa fitur Bonitasoft BPM untuk mengembangkan prototipe aplikasi dengan ketelitian tinggi. Dalam proses evaluasi, kami mengembangkan beberapa skenario dengan pengujian data yang terjadi pada prosedur manual. Berdasarkan evaluasi, prototype telah berhasil merepresentasikan seluruh proses yang terjadi pada setiap fitur. Di masa depan, pengembangan EDCMA yang menggunakan kerangka kerja aplikasi web dan seluler akan menyediakan sistem EDCMA untuk pengguna akhir.

Objective: to describe the conduction of data extraction, analysis and codification using the Straussian perspective of Grounded Theory, in Literature Meta-analysis. Method: this is a theoretical-reflexive study on the data extraction from reviews with meta-anaylses. To design the process of searching for qualitative studies, this study briefly addresses the sequential steps of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses and the Joanna Briggs Institute. The extraction, analysis and codification process were carried out following the assumptions of grounded theory, with the Straussian perspective. They are the theoretical-methodological bases in the first stages of the guidelines of the literature review and Meta-analyses guides, starting with the research question until reaching the review stages, divided into identification, selection, eligibility, and inclusion. Results: the results describe the process of data extraction, analysis and codification from the Straussian perspective, using comparative analysis of data, memoranda, diagrams and possibilities of new sample groups from the detailed analytical reading of the included studies. Finally, theoretical saturation is performed, with an analysis of the findings, with examples of categories and subcategories, the emergence of the central phenomenon and presentation of the paradigmatic model. Conclusion: the essay presents subsidies for the understanding of the conduction of extraction, analysis and codification of data in meta-analyses based on the Straussian perspective, enabling the systematized analysis of qualitative evidence and contributing to the development of models or theories of conceptual character
