The number of vehicles on the roads has increased proportionally over the last couple of years and this number is likely to rise due to the increase in population growth and the number of vehicles that are manufacturing every day. This high traffic density leads to several problems, from which effectively disseminating the emergency messages is a major concern. Keeping in view the dynamic characteristics of VANETs, significant challenges are faced in disseminating the message across the network. The major challenges are the broadcast storm problem, hidden node problem and the packet collision. Many studies have been performed to devise an effective and reliable mechanism for disseminating emergency messages in a Vehicular ad-Hoc Network (VANET). Researchers have proposed different models to tackle various types of scenarios for emergency message dissemination. This paper not only reviews some recent contributions to emergency message dissemination in vehicular networks but also discusses various proposed methods based on Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), Internet of Things (IoT), Priority messaging, Clustering approach, Software Defined Network (SDN) and Fog Computing. We have also tried to explore the latest developments in emergency message dissemination using 5G networks.

<p>Nowadays Vehicle Ad - hoc Nets (VANET) applications have become very important in our lives because VANET provides drivers with safety messages, warnings, and instructions to ensure drivers have a safe and enjoyable journey. VANET Security is one of the hottest topics in computer networks research, Falsifying VANET system information violates VANET safety objectives and may lead to hazardous situations and loss of life. In this paper, an Intelligent Reputation System (IRS) aims to identify attacking vehicles will be proposed; the proposed system will rely on opinion generation, trust value collection, traffic analysis, position based, data collection, and intelligent decision making by utilizing the multi-parameter Greedy Best First algorithm. The results of this research will enhance VANET's safety level and will facilitate the identification of misbehaving vehicles and their messages. The results of the proposed system have also proven to be superior to other reputational systems.</p>

Vehicular networks are becoming a prominent research field in the intelligent transportation system (ITS) due to the nature and characteristics of providing high-level road safety and optimized traffic management. Vehicles are equipped with the heavy communication equipment which requires a high power supply, on-board computing device, and data storage devices. Many wireless communication technologies are deployed to maintain and enhance the traffic management system. The ITS is capable of providing services to the traffic authorities and precautionary measures to the drivers and passengers. Several methods have been proposed for discussing the security and privacy issues for the vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) and vehicular cloud computing (VCC). They receive a great deal of attention from researchers around the world since they are new technologies, and they can improve road safety and enhance traffic flow by utilizing the vehicles resources and communication system. Firstly, the VANETs are presented, including the basic overview, characteristics, threats, and attacks. The location privacy methodologies are elaborated, which can protect the confidential information of the vehicle, such as the location detail and driver information. Secondly, the trust management models in the VANETs are comprehensively discussed, followed by the comparison of the cryptography and trust models in terms of different kinds of attacks. Then, the simulation tools and applications of the VANETs are discussed, and the evolution is presented from the VANETs to VCC in the vehicular network. Thirdly, the VCC is discussed from its architecture and the security and privacy issues. Finally, several research challenges on the VANETs and VCC are presented. In sum, this survey comprehensively covers the location privacy and trust management models of the VANETs and discusses the security and privacy issues in the VCC, which fills the gap of existing surveys. Also, it indicates the research challenges in the VANETs and VCC.
