A survey on control issues in renewable energy integration and microgrid

Abstract: This paper describes the usefulness of renewable energy throughout the world to generate power. Renewable energy adds a remarkable scope in power system. Renewable energy sources act as the prime mover of a microgrid. The Microgrid is a small network of power system with distributed generation (DG) units connected in parallel. The integration challenges of renewable energy sources and the control of microgrid are described in this paper. The varied nature of DG system produces voltage and frequency deviation. … Show more

“…In order to ensure secure and stable operation of EGIES, it is very important for operators to quickly and accurately evaluate the operational risk of the system. At present, research on integrated energy systems has focused on energy flow analysis [7,8], optimized operation [9][10][11], and collaborative planning [12]. Most of the researches on system risk assessment have stayed in a single energy system, and there are few studies on risk assessment of multi-energy systems.…”

“…The minimizationin of norm may result in conservative controller and indicates the poor performance of the controller . Linear quadratic regulator (LQR) has been designed to achieve better regulation of islanded MG voltage . The function of LQR controller depends on the plant dynamics which may change due to the parameter variation or uncertainty.…”

“…To more flexibly accommodate an increasing number of inverter‐interfaced and synchronous distributed generators (DGs), active distribution networks (ADNs) have been introduced and attracted considerable attention . Currently, one of the most critical challenges regarding the development of ADNs is to enhance the robustness against short‐circuit faults, and there is an urgent demand to efficiently suppress the fault currents of ADNs …”
