A Study on the Red Clay Binder Stabilized with a Polymer Aqueous Solution

Abstract: In this study, the performance evaluation was performed by adding a polymer aqueous (PA) solution as a new additive of the red clay binder for use in the rammed-earth construction method. The evaluation items were compressive strength, water erosion, shrinkage, crystal structure, and microstructure. As a result of the experiment, the binder was improved by efficiently bonding the silica particles by the polymerized polymer. It was confirmed that adding a PA solution to red clay enhances the compressive strengt… Show more

“…The material remained under compression load for a residence time of 5 min for material stabilization, then the briquettes were ejected from the mould. During production, sawdust and binder pulps were weighed and mechanically mixed in a bowl 38,39 then water was added and blended to facilitate bonding in the resulting material charge which was fed into each moulding cups. Four sets of twin briquettes (designated as (AR1-8) were produced per unit operation (Fig.…”

“…The chemical composition of hwangto includes SiO 2 and Al 2 O 3 , making it similar to admixtures used in cement. Therefore, hwangto has been used as cement replacement material for CO 2 reduction, particularly in Asian countries such as China and the Republic of Korea [ 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 ].…”

“…The thermal property of a grouting material is involved in energy efficiency, hence, affecting to the number and length of boreholes; the strength property of it affect to stability of the GCHP in situ [ 17 ]. Existing studies confirm the epoxy emulsion (EM) and acrylic polymer aqueous solution (APAS) mixture outperforms in strength development as a red clay stabilizer [ 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 ]. However, few study considers its energy efficiency and strength when it is mixed with sand for grouting of GCHP system.…”
