“…As per the study by Zhong et al [10] on 0.11 and 0.26 at.% Yb doped sample they exhibited the contraction of lattice. On the other hand study by Chen et al [5] on the higher Yb doped sample i.e., for 4.8, 9.5 and 18.1 at.% Yb, has shown that the lattice shows shrinkage at doping concentration of 9.5 and 18.1 at.%. Our systematic study on the whole range of the doping concentration clearly revealed that the lattice volume is indeed not affected at lower doping concentrations and exhibits slight systematic decrease only at higher doping concentration above 2.94 at.%.…”

“…In recent years, crystals doped with trivalent ytterbium ions (Yb 3þ ) have been of great interest as directly diode-pumped laser materials with emission around 1 mm. As a rare-earth ion with the quasi-three level scheme, Yb 3þ offers important advantages such as high efficiency in energy conversion, long fluorescence lifetime and low quantum defect between the pump and the laser wavelengths [5]. Also, Yb has wide solubility in YVO 4 which makes it possible to have high dopant concentration.…”
