The energy loss by a charged particle moving along a given path in the crystal lattice is calculated in terms of quantum perturbation theory. I n calculating the contribution of excitations with lowenergy transfer, the sum rule is used. The highly-excited states are described in a quasi-classical approximation. The results obtained with these approximations coincide in the intermediate region of excitation energy. The results obtained allow the electrons of the core and the valence electrons to be treated from a unified standpoint. The averaging of the obtained expression for AE(b) over the random impact-parameten distribution leads to the Lindhard-Scharff formula. The calculated dependence of the mean relatve proton-energy loss upon the dechanneling depth is compared with available experimental data.Der Energieverlust eines geladenen Partiels, das sich entlang eines vorgegebenen Weges im Kristallgitter bewegt, wird mit Quantenstijrungstheorie berechnet. Bei der Berechnung des Beitrags der Anregungen mit Niederenergietransfer wird die Summenregel benutzt. Die hochangeregten Zustiande werden in einer quasiklassischen Naherung beschrieben. Die mit diesen Niiherungen erhaltenen Ergebnisse stimmen im Zwischenbereich der Anregungsenergien uberein. Die erhaltenen Ergebnisse erlauben eine Behandlung der Rumpfelektronen und der Valenzelektronen von einem einheitlichen Standpunkt aus. Die Mittelung des erhaltenen Ausdruckes fur a ( b ) uber die statistische StoBparameter-Verteilung fuhrt zur Lindhard-Scharff-Formel. Die berechnete Abhiingigkeit des relativen mittleren Protonenenergieverlustes von der Dechanneling. tiefe wird mit vorhandenen experimentellen Werten verglichen.-

on the occasion of his 80th birthdayThe energy loss of protons in the energy region from 40 to 350 keV is measured for (110), (loo), and (1 11) planar channeling, for ( l l O > , (11 l}, (1 12> axial channeling, and for random directions in silicon. The investigations are carried out by means of the transmission experiment using silicon targets of several thicknesses. Stopping power values are derrved from the peak and the leading edge of energy spectra for channeled particles. Special procedures are applied to correct the obtained stopping power data with respect to the target thickness. In the case of leading edge the stopping power data depend strongly on the target thickness. It is shown that only the extrapolation to zero thickness leads to correct stopping power values for best channeled particles. It is found that the ratio of channeled to random stopping power shows a maximum in the energy region a t about 70 keV.
