“…Its relationship to the 90K protein observed in tunicamycin-treated cells (Stallcup & Fields, 1981) is not clear (Wild & Giraudon, 1982). It may be important to note that a virus-induced protein can be observed in this region of SDSpolyacrylamide gels in other studies (Wechsler & Fields, 1978a;Rima et al, 1981). The N protein is the major protein synthesized by in vitro translation (Niveleau & Wild, 1979;Rozenblatt et al, 1979;Sprague et al, 1979) and, recently, cDNA copies of part of the gene for the N protein have been cloned (Gorecki & Rozenblatt, 1980;Rozenblatt et al, 1982).…”

“…The number of phosphorylation sites on the protein has not yet been determined. However, it is large, as almost all the peptides in limited proteolysis experiments appear to be phosphorylated (Graves, 1981 ;Rima et al, 1981). The phosphate groups are linked to threonine and serine residues in the N proteins of both MV and CDV (Robbins & Bussell, 1979;Campbell et al, 1980;Hall et al, 1980).…”

“…These proteins have not yet been identified in vivo in labelled CDV-infected cell lysates but they are present in rabbit reticulocyte lysates stimulated with pA+RNA from CDV-infected cells. The identity of the CDV 42K protein is unknown but in MV-infected cells we have previously identified a protein designated X (Rima et al, 1981) which was found to have extensive peptide homology with the P protein. This X protein is made in vivo and in vitro (Carter et al, 1983) and it is interesting to note that one of the early measles clones obtained by Rozenblatt et al (1982) and now shown to be a P clone by Bellini et al (1984), also directs the synthesis of a 40K protein.…”
