A Study of Assessment and Prediction of Water Quality Index Using Fuzzy Logic and ANN Models

Abstract: Various human activities have been the main causes of surface water pollution. The uneven distribution of industrial enterprises in the territories of the main river basins of Ukraine do not always allow the real state of the water quality to be assessed. This article has three purposes: (1) the modification of the Ukrainian method for assessing the WQI, taking into account the level of negative impact of the most dangerous chemical elements, (2) the modeling of WQI assessment using fuzzy logic and (3) the cre… Show more

“…This can lead to better environmental management, improved regulatory compliance, and overall more effective wastewater treatment processes. A fuzzy logic model was employed [2], incorporating four input variables to compute a single output variable, namely Water Quality Index (WQI). Subsequently, in the concluding phase of the investigation, six distinct Arti cial Neural Network (ANN) models were scrutinized.…”

“…Environmental forecasting, or anticipating future ecology qualities based on observable unanticipated factors is a valuable tool for management. Prediction provides managers with probability projections for probable water quality circumstances in a focus lake or reserve tank, enabling them to take pre-emptive management activities that decrease or prevent water degradation [3].…”

“…Surface water pollution has become a serious environmental issue on a global scale that needs to be continuously assessed and monitored at all scales to ensure the sustainability of ecosystems [1]. Surface water quality monitoring requires a thorough process that involves numerous chemical studies of water [2]. Throughout the world, river systems are significantly impacted by pollution.…”
