Belzunce*** y R.Torrecillas* R Re es su um me en n En este trabajo se describe un nuevo método de procesamiento coloidal para obtener materiales nanoestructurados de base aluminio con partículas intermetálicas ZrAl 3 . A partir de una mezcla controlada en alcohol, de polvos de aluminio con un alcóxido precursor de zirconio (C 12 H 28 O 4 Zr) se obtiene, mediante un tratamiento térmico en un horno convencional con atmósfera controlada o por prensado uniaxial en caliente, un polvo nanoestructurado formado por cristales de aluminio sobre los que cristalizan, de forma homogénea, nanopartículas intermetálicas de ZrAl 3 . La identificación del intermetálico se efectuó por difracción de rayos X y microscopía electrónica de barrido. El comportamiento mecánico de los materiales nanoestructurados desarrollados se evaluó a partir de ensayos de dureza y mediante el ensayo miniatura de punzonado (EMP). Los resultados muestran que la presencia del intermetálico de zirconio hasta un 1,0 % (en peso) de zirconio aumenta la dureza y rigidez de la matriz de aluminio, al tiempo que incrementa su resistencia mecánica (límite elástico y resistencia a la tracción). The combination of Al powders and zirconium IV-propoxide (C 12 H 28 O 4 Zr) under controlled conditions results in a metal matrix composite with a homogeneous dispersion of intermetallics. Synthesis was carried out in a tubular furnace under argon and by hot pressing under the same atmospheric conditions. XDR and SEM were used to identify the intermetallic nanoparticles. The Charpy-V-notch impact test has been used routinely to evaluate the ductile-brittle behavior in steels. Likewise, the Small-Punch test has been applied to evaluate toughness properties in different materials. In this work, both tests were conducted at -196 °C on three types of austenitic stainless steels JN1, JJ1 and JK2, which were solution treated and then aged at temperatures between 700 and 900 °C for 10 and 1000 minutes. The solution treated steels exhibited a ductile fracture with high fracture energy, after testing with both tests. The brittle intergranular fracture was induced by the aging process of specimens and thus the fracture energy of tested specimens decreased dramatically. The highest and lowest decreases in energy with both tests occurred in the aged JN1 and JK2 steels, respectively. The Charpy-v-notch, CVN, test energy and small-punch, SP, test energy at -196 °C was found to follow a linear correlationship equation, CVN Test Energy = 89.7 SP Test Energy -63.0.

The fracture characterization under plane-stress conditions in polymer sheets in recent decades has usually been done through the application of the essential work of fracture (EWF) method. However, when deeply double-edged, notched tensile standard specimens cannot be obtained, the use of alternative small pieces, such as prenotched miniature specimens, could be a viable solution. This is why we examined the new fracture characterization in polymer-prenotched small punch test (SPT) specimens in this study. With the results that we obtained, the feasibility of using prenotched SPT specimens for evaluating the EWF parameters and their correspondence with the results from standard specimens were established.
