A Stereological Assessment Method for Estimating the Surface Area of Cycloids

Abstract: We determined that there are no differences in either surface area or volume estimations made using VUR sections and direct vertical sections. We have performed an exhaustive series analysis with a variety of objects.

“…Stereologic analyses were performed in a stereology workstation consisting of a modified light microscope ††† and stereology software ‡‡‡ . The unbiased counting frame‐fractionator combination is a stereologic method for counting positive cells for all groups 28 . RANKL‐positive cell density was estimated according to the following formula: where PCD is RANKL‐positive cell density per 1,000 μm 2 area, NPC is number of positive cells, CFA is counting frame area ( XY ) (μm 2 ), and NSS is the number of sampling sites.…”

“…Mandible tissue (1 mm thickness; at the first molar area) was sectioned and 5‐μm sections were prepared for all animals to measure the volumes of alveolar bone and bone marrow cavity (total 20 sections) with stereologic methods described previously 28 . At the beginning of the study, all sections in only one sample belonging to the control group were obtained from each block without any sampling procedure for use in pilot stereologic analyses.…”

“…Useful techniques for estimating the transverse area of interesting objects have been produced using isotropic uniform random sectioning [10]. Exfoliative cells were estimated for each smear slides using the software Stereo Investigator (Microbrightfield StereoInvestigator software v. 9.0, Microbrightfield, Williston, VT).…”
