The change in habits and lifestyle of citizens during health crisis like COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in an unprecedented increase in the struggles for solid waste management across the globe. Not only underdeveloped and developing economies are struggling with the challenges posed by mounting piles of infectious waste but even developed countries are adversely affected in similar manner. The routine waste management strategies followed by various countries are overturned due extremely altered trends in the amount and type of waste generated by households and medical facilities. The aim of this paper is to study and list the best available waste management policies adopted by some developing, developed and underdeveloped economies. The listed case studies were selected due to some unique steps undertaken for solid waste disposal during pandemic. The findings revealed that the guidelines issued by WHO for waste management of corona virus infected waste were followed by these nations and certain additional preventive steps were taken. Due to unavailability of single framework as prescribed by international authorities, various sustainable steps taken by individual countries to curb the pandemic menace can be useful in the present context. Few of these measures can be permanently adopted at global level by other nations for handling the pandemic like situations efficiently in pandemic situations.

The city of Denpasar has not been able to carry out waste management properly, even though waste management is very important to reduce the volume of waste, and it can even use waste into useful objects or products. Denpasar City tries to manage waste in Denpasar. The purpose of this research is to find out how the implementation of Denpasar City Regulation Number 3 of 2015 concerning Waste Management and to find out the supporting and inhibiting factors of the enactment of Denpasar City Government Regulation Number 3 of 2015 concerning Waste Management. This study was designed using empirical legal research with a statutory approach. The data collection techniques used in the study were interviews and documentation. The results show that the action of the Denpasar city government against violations of the Regional Regulation of the City of Denpasar Number 3 of 2015 concerning waste management is to implement minor crimes against offenders where those who violate are tried in light criminal court (Tipiring). Then, the supporting and inhibiting factors for the enforcement of Regional Regulation Number 3 of 2015 on Waste Management are the legal basis for cleanliness management that has been issued by the Denpasar City Government in the form of Legislation, Regional Regulations, and the Mayor of Denpasar. Inhibiting factors for the enforcement of Sanctions by Regional Regulation No.3 of 2015 on Waste Management, namely factors of law enforcement officers, facilities and infrastructure factors, and community factors.

The growing popularity of the concepts of circular economy and resource cascade has intensified the need for consistent handling of multifunctionality‐related challenges when modeling multiple cycles in life cycle assessment (LCA). In LCA, end‐of‐life upcycling and downcycling effects (also known as quality changes), triggered by the presence of multiple life cycles, have only recently begun to be studied from a consequential perspective, and no studies exist investigating attributional aspects. In this paper, a novel approach that considers quality in attributional LCA is proposed. The attributional, cut‐off, open loop, and proposed approaches are compared in the form of a cascading case study. The implications of integrating quality in both perspectives are contrasted by modeling the same case study under a consequential perspective. By performing sensitivity analysis on the quality parameters in attributional LCA, we found that the integration of quality influences the results of the proposed approach by up to 15%. In the case of consequential LCA, the implementation of quality yields an influence between 97% and 138% of the results for each unit variation of quality. Comparison between the two perspectives of quality shows the same trend of supporting high‐quality cascades. However, the attributional perspective of quality accomplishes this by redistributing impacts, while the consequential perspective affects the external benefits generated by the cascade. Considering the influence of quality on the results of both perspectives, future work should focus on establishing the technical or economic properties that would allow for practical use of quality in various circular economy and resource cascade applications.
