A spreadsheet-based visualized Mindtool for improving students’ learning performance in identifying relationships between numerical variables

Abstract: In this study, a spreadsheet-based visualized Mindtool was developed for improving students' learning performance when finding relationships between numerical variables by engaging them in reasoning and decision-making activities. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, an experiment was conducted on the "phenomena of climate on earth" unit of an elementary school geography course. The experimental results showed that the spreadsheet-based visualized Mindtool significantly benefited the student… Show more

“…Furthermore, behavioral sequence analysis had been utilized in an online two-tier test strategy to diagnose students' misconceptions and to examine the pattern of students' test-learning behaviors (Yang, Chen, & Hwang, 2015). Lai and Hwang (2015) discovered that, compared to low-achieving students, high-achieving students tended to exhibit patterns of behaviors in which they repeatedly searched for additional learning materials, often attempted an input value, and observed the corresponding outcome. Chen and Jang (2010) discovered that there were no significant correlations between learning motivation and weekly login frequency, and the number of clicks on the online platform.…”

“…The structural analysis also confirmed that EFL learners' attitude toward CALL significantly led to their satisfaction, as previous studies have pointed out. Lai and Hwang [56] therefore recommend that appropriately designed and implemented computer-assisted learning will not only promote learners' attitude and satisfaction, but also improve their learning achievement.…”

“…LSA is mainly used to examine whether certain human behaviour followed by another behaviour occurs with statistical significance (Hawks, ). In recent years, the generalized sequential querier (GSEQ) is used to analyse the behavioural sequences of users (Hou, ; Hou et al., ; Lai & Hwang, ; Lan et al., ). Thus, we adopted GSEQ 5.1 as the analytical tool to evaluate student behavioural sequence.…”
