A Spatiotemporal Calibration Algorithm for IMU–LiDAR Navigation System Based on Similarity of Motion Trajectories

Abstract: The fusion of light detection and ranging (LiDAR) and inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensing information can effectively improve the environment modeling and localization accuracy of navigation systems. To realize the spatiotemporal unification of data collected by the IMU and the LiDAR, a two-step spatiotemporal calibration method combining coarse and fine is proposed. The method mainly includes two aspects: (1) Modeling continuous-time trajectories of IMU attitude motion using B-spline basis functions; the … Show more

“…Based on [ 26 , 27 ], Ref. [ 28 ] combines Hausdorff distance between the local trajectories and hand-eye calibration to solve the initial spatiotemporal relationship. Then, the IMU pre-integration and the point, line and plane features of the point cloud are wrapped into the objective function.…”

“…Navigation system refers to the general term of all equipment combinations that can complete certain navigation and positioning tasks. At present, the main navigation systems include radio navigation system [1,2], satellite navigation system [3][4][5], astronomical navigation system [6], inertial navigation system [7,8] and integrated navigation system [9][10][11], etc.…”

“…Relocation is used to obtain the vehicle’s global position and pose based on the built map. Various relocation methods have been successful in resolving such problems using global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) [ 1 , 2 , 3 ], the inertial measurement unit (IMU) [ 4 , 5 ], cameras, LiDAR, and other sensing sensors.…”
