“…However, the values found even at the maximum Ψ m : 3000 kPa, θ: ± 0.20 cm 3 cm -3 , PR: 1.7 MPa are related to less than 2.5 MPa values for PR (Figure2), which according to several authors is the PR value in which root growth is limited for most crops (Bengouch & Mullins, 1990;Keller et al, 2014;Silva et al, 2015;Peixoto et al, 2019). This is an indicative of the management used to cultivated coffee crop was adequate to soil structure quality maintaining some environmental sustainability.…”

“…For tensions above 1500 kPa the WP4-T psychrometer was used (Carducci et al, 2013). After the equilibrium of the samples at the predetermined Ψ m , was performed the penetration resistance, using a penetrograph model MA 93, with constant speed (10 cm min -1 ), straight circular cone (45°) and radius of 1.92 mm (Silva et al, 2015;Peixoto et al, 2019). After this procedure all the samples were weighed and then oven-dried at 105-110°C for 48h to determine the water content corresponding to Ψ m (Genuchten, 1980), totaling 36 samples.…”

“…The planting system adopted in the farms is SPD, possibly inserted in the area volume cited by Peixoto et al (2019), whose understanding is anchored in the molds proposed by Phillips et al (1980), presenting the gains gauged by Salton, Hernani and Fontes (1998). Cotton planting in the research region is done in the conventional system (Clawson et al, 2008) to the detriment of the adensed system as discussed in Rosolem et al (2012) and Kazama et al (2016).…”

“…The application of cotton occurs in two main segments: the textile that absorbs the lint, which in economic terms is the main primary cotton product (Amaral et al, 2018), which can represent up to 40% of the fruit, and the nontextile that uses the seed in the production of oil and derivatives, feed production (Li & Robinson, 2011 The cotton chain is characterized by, among other things, the intensive use of technology (Conab, 2018) and the high capacity to add value (Abrapa, 2017). Technologies such as the No-till System (SPD) have been adopted since the 1970s in Brazil, where more than 32 million hectares of land are under this system (Peixoto et al, 2019). SPD is characterized by non-involvement, permanent soil cover and crop rotation, increasing the sustainability of ecosystems (Salton, Hernani & Fontes, 1998).…”

“…Soil physical quality properties such as bulk density, porosity, water retention capacity, and penetration resistance, indirectly affect crop development and yield (Hargreaves et al, 2019). In the no-tillage system, restrictions related to compaction may be greater (Peixoto et al, 2019), since soil mobilization is restricted to the sowing line.…”
