A Simulation Framework for the Performance Assessment of Shop-Floor Control Systems

Abstract: The authors discuss the concept and design criteria for a framework that facilitates the performance assessment of shop-floo control systems. Their basic concept includes a simulation model that emulates the shop floo of a wafer fab, sends information to the control system, and receives information back from the control system. The shop-floo control system is realized as a separate module that interfaces to the simulator via a data layer that contains the current shop-floo status and the control information ge… Show more

“…e PI algorithm is the most commonly used control algorithm applied to the speed control system. It is composed of two parts: the proportional regulator P and the integral regulator I [28]. e speed control system needs a fast and stable control effect, so the regulator P plays a role of rapid adjustment, and the integral regulator I plays a role of steady-state error-free, thus meeting the fast and stable requirements of the speed control system [29].…”

“…Several other studies use simulation to assess the performance of real-time control systems in assembly lines Gong et al [55], Wu et al [56], flow shops [57] [58], and job shops [59], and semiconductor manufacturing [60]. For list of other studies that use simulation to evaluate the performance of different scheduling rules, see [61]- [66].…”

“…ASAP allows users to write and call external dynamic link libraries (DLLs) written in Cϩϩ for customizing the software's existing functionality. The modified SB heuristic of Mason, Fowler, and Carlyle [13] for complex job shop scheduling was recently translated into Cϩϩ for use as an ASAP DLL [15]. The DLL is called every time the factory needs to be scheduled or rescheduled by the SB heuristic.…”
