A Simple Dual-Band Circularly Polarized Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antenna

Abstract: A simple slot coupled dual-band circularly polarized (CP) rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is presented. The TE 111 and TE 113 modes of the rectangular DRA are excited by a modified annular slot. Working principle of the proposed antenna is explained in this paper. Design guideline of the proposed antenna is also devised based on the parameter study. The simple feeding and radiating structures of the proposed antenna make it easy to be designed and fabricated. A prototype antenna was designed, fa… Show more

“…It is clear from both the figures that cross‐polarization is well below the co‐polarization in both E and H‐planes. It is also worth mentioning that radiation patterns are in the broadside direction, as expected, because excited modes are TE111 and TE113 for port 1 and port 2, respectively . For slot coupled feed (port 1), the cross‐polarization in the H‐plane is quite higher than the E‐plane as shown in Figures and , (a) and (b).…”

“…Broadly, these approaches can be divided into four categories; firstly, according to the antenna geometry (DR shape/fractal/EBG/metamaterial), secondly, the coupling mechanism (feeding type/aperture shape), thirdly, the DR permittivity, and lastly, according to the excitation of specific mode. From ease of readers' point of view, these techniques are discussed separately for single‐band, dual‐band, and multi‐band,, respectively. Moreover, some other characteristics say radiation/notch…”

“…Hence, for the same purpose, different techniques have been proposed in context to DRA. For easy and smooth classification, literature based on dual‐band and on multi‐band is discussed in this section, respectively.…”

“…In microstrip patch antenna so many techniques are used for achieving dual bands and compactness, such as triangular patch with two folding arms shorted to the ground plane [3], circular patch with curved slots on ground plane [4], an elliptical metallic patch [5], slotted patch with defected ground structure (DGS) [6], symmetric coupled lines [7], combination of the Jerusalem cross (JC) as a fractal load and fractal Minkowski slot antenna [8], half-mode substrate integrated waveguide with a row of shorting vias and slots [9], shorting pin and two arc-shaped slots in circular patch [10] stacked patch [11] and by slotted ground structure [12]. TE 111 and TE 113 modes of the rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) excited by a modified annular slot are reported in [13]. By using an irregular ring-shaped ground plane and a shared radiating element, dual resonances are achieved in MIMO antenna which is reported in [14].…”
