The significance of an externally applied magnetic field and an imposed negative temperature gradient on the onset of natural convection in a thin horizontal layer of alumina-water nanofluid for various sizes of spherical alumina nanoparticles (e.g., 30 , 35 , 40 , 45) and volumetric fractions (e.g., 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04) is explored and analyzed numerically in this paper. The generalized Buongiorno's mathematical model with the simplified Maxwell's equations and the Oberbeck-Boussinesq approximation were adopted to simulate the two-phase transport phenomena, in which the Brownian motion and thermophoresis aspects are taken into account. Moreover, the rheological behavior of alumina-water nanofluid and related flow are assumed to be Newtonian, incompressible and laminar. Based on the linear stability theory, the perturbed partial differential equations (PDEs) of magnetohydrodynamic convective nanofluid flow are firstly simplified formally using the normal mode analysis technique and secondly converted to a generalized eigenvalue problem considering more realistic boundary conditions, in which the thermal Rayleigh number is the associated eigenvalue. Additionally, the resulting eigenvalue problem was solved numerically using powerful collocation methods, like Chebyshev-Gauss-Lobatto Spectral Method (CGLSM) and Generalized Differential Quadrature Method (GDQM). Furthermore, the thermo-magneto-hydrodynamic stability of the nanofluidic system and the critical size of convection cells are highlighted graphically in terms of the critical thermal Rayleigh and wave numbers, for various values of the magnetic Chandrasekhar number, the volumetric fraction and the diameter of alumina nanoparticles.

The aim of the present study is to analyze the magnetohydrodynamic micropolar Carreau nano uid ow past a stretching sheet. Viscous dissipation, internal heating, Joule heating, and linear thermal radiation e ects are also incorporated into the energy equation. The system of governing PDEs is transformed into the ODEs by invoking the similarity transformation. The shooting method is implemented to solve the system of ODEs. The in uence of pertinent parameters on ow distributions is analyzed graphically and discussed in detail. The uid motion upsurges for the larger values of the Weissenberg number and the material parameter, while the reverse situation is studied in the thermal and concentration pro les.

In this problem, a theoretical study is presented for the slip effects on the twodimensional flow of a nano liquid in a semi-porous channel designed by two long rectangular plates having porous media. One of the channel walls is porous and other is rigid as well as slippery. A transverse magnetic field of homogenous strength is also applied to direction of flow. Magnetic nanoparticles   34 Fe O and non-magnetic nanoparticles   23 Al O are considered with ethylene glycol (EG) and water as base fluids (BFs). Least Square method (LSM) and Galerkin method (GM) are adopted to solve the equations, transformed from partial differential equations (DEs) to ordinary ones by Berman's similarity transformations. The obtained results from the two analytical methods are compared with the results obtained by fourth order Runge-Kutta numerical method (NM). By comparing the results of GM and LSM it is observed that variation in velocity profiles is minimal however the accuracy of GM is higher than LSM. The contributions of various flow parameters are presented through graphs. Results show a decrement in the fluid velocity with an increase in the slip and porosity parameter. The fluid boundary layer decreases with an increase in the Reynolds number. Flow field is less for the case of magnetic nanoparticles as compared to nonmagnetic particles.
