The development of information and telecommunication technologies has given rise to new platforms for e-Health. However, some difficulties have been detected since each manufacturer implements its communication protocols and defines their data formats. A semantic incongruence is observed between platforms since no common healthcare domain vocabulary is shared between manufacturers and stakeholders. Despite the existence of standards for semantic and platform interoperability (e.g. openEHR for healthcare, Semantic Sensor Network for Internet of Medical Things platforms, and machine-to-machine standards), no approach has combined them for granting interoperability or considered the whole integration of legacy Electronic Health Record Systems currently used worldwide. Moreover, the heterogeneity in the large volume of health data generated by Internet of Medical Things platforms must be attenuated for the proper application of big data processing techniques. This article proposes the joint use of openEHR and Semantic Sensor Network semantics for the achievement of interoperability at the semantic level and use of a machine-tomachine architecture for the definition of an interoperable Internet of Medical Things platform.

World is getting smaller and smaller in a digital era but accurate and precise health care depends upon high-quality information. Attributes of patients, manufacturers, medicines, treatment systems, laboratory standards, hospitals, etc., are not identified in a real sense in many cases of development of healthcare data But due to unavailability of authentic information, it cannot be integrated for use of interoperability. Furthermore, an exchanged data must be understood by a user which does not exist in the present time. This paper aims to identify the role of core elements in health care. This paper provides a platform for identifying the role of each element by conducting a survey and analyzing it for semantic interoperability which is a prerequisite of Web Semantic. Survey reveals that interoperability in health care obtained only when the role of each element is identified in a holistic approach.

Internet of Things (IoT) is highly heterogeneous in terms of devices, communication technologies, protocols, data formats, and semantics. Data generated from various sources are represented using different semantics. It makes semantic interoperability as one of the significant issues in provisioning seamless communication and services over diverse IoT platforms. Semantic models help in exchanging semantically annotated information among such heterogeneous applications in a meaningful way. Seamless communication among different types of applications is commonly accomplished by using middleware, ontology, and semantic web technologies. In this paper, we present a comprehensive survey of different semantic interoperability solutions in the context of IoT. The pivotal semantic models available in the literature are compared with the help of a classification framework. This study identifies various open research issues and challenges for facilitating interoperable IoT communications. For the purpose of implementation and performance evaluation of various semantic models, we also suggest some important tools and frameworks. After pointing out different prospects and problems of the existing semantic interoperability schemes, the factors for improvement are identified indicating future research directions.
