One integrated mine was currently threatened with an old goaf water disaster, therefore, the development of an advanced detection-guarantee system for roadway excavation with no blind area was imperative. Further, multiple geophysical exploration in combination with two types of boreholes were used to explore and drain water technology, with the anomalous geophysical area as the target area, The conventional borehole with the largest water outflow was taken as the target spot, at a low elevation of the mining area, and a remote directional borehole was used to drill into the old goaf along the stable rock strata below the coal seam floor to intercept the dynamic recharge water, which increased the efficiency of roadway excavation 4–9 times. The ‘isolated island’ old goaf water in the mining face was controlled through multiple geophysical exploration combined with the full-coverage exploration technology by conventional boreholes, and the water-rich anomalous area and geological anomalous area were determined, thus ensuring the safety of the mining face in terms of old goaf water. The technology for advanced short-distance exploration, advanced estimate, roadway exploration, and dynamic old goaf water with drainage was used to comprehensively guarantee real-time, safe mining. This system for the prevention and control of old goaf water was applied to a control project for the old goaf water disaster in the 101 mining face. At present, 1.37 Mt of coal has been safely mined from this mining face. The technical system has improved The Detailed Rules for Water Disaster Prevention and Control of Coal Mine (NCMSA 2018), and improved the technology for the prevention and control of old goaf water under conditions where the upper portion in the same coal seam was destroyed by a small-scale coal mine and re-mining.

The water yield of coal seam roof aquifers is the key factor for evaluating and controlling water disasters in coal seam roofs. To evaluate the water yield of the sandstone aquifer in the roof of the Carboniferous-Permian Damiaozhuang Formation no. 8 coal seam in the Donghuantuo Mine, North China, seven main controlling factors affecting the water yield of sandstone aquifers are determined, including the permeability coefficient, consumption of drilling fluid, core recovery, aquifer thickness, brittle-plastic rock thickness ratio, fault scale index, and fault point density. Further, the fuzzy Delphi analytic hierarchy process (FDAHP) and entropy weight method (EWM) are used to calculate the subjective and objective weights of each main factor, respectively, and a combination weight model (CWM) is proposed based on the least square method to compose the comprehensive weights. Then, an improved water yield property index (IWYPI) model is established, and the water yield zoning map of sandstone aquifers is acquired. Engineering practice shows that the evaluation accuracy of the water yield property index (IWYPI) model based on the CWM is as high as 93.75%, which is 18.75% and 12.5% higher than that of the water yield property index (WYPI) model based on the FDAHP and EWM, respectively. The research results propose a novel method for evaluating the water yield of coal seam roof aquifers and can provide scientific guidance for the prevention and control of water disasters in the no. 8 coal seam roof of the Donghuantuo Coal Mine.

As one of the five major coal mine disasters, the water inrush disaster poses a serious threat to the safety of the country and people, so the prevention work for that becomes very important. However, there is no perfect assessment system that can better solve the complex dependence relationships among disaster-causing factors of water inrush disasters. This study applied the knowledge of Complex Networks to research water inrush disaster, and based on that, the early warning evaluation system that combined ANP and Cloud model was established in order to solve the complex dependence problem and prevent the occurrence of water inrush. Moreover, this evaluation model was applied to the example Y coal mine to verify its superiority and feasibility. The results showed that the main cloud of goal was located at the yellow-strong warning level, and the first-level indicators were, respectively, at that the yellow-strong level of mining conditions, the yellow-strong warning level of hydrological factors, between the yellow-strong warning level and purple-general level of the geological structure, and among the blue-slightly weak warning level, purple-general level, and yellow-strong level of the human factor. The prediction results were consistent with the actual situation of the coal water inrush disaster in Y mine, which further proved that this early warning evaluation model is reliable. In response to the forecast results, the authors put forward relative improvements necessary to strengthen the prevention ability to disaster-causing factors among hydrological factors, mining conditions, and geological structure, which should comprehensively increase knowledge, technology, and management of workers to avoid leaving out disaster-causing factors. Meanwhile, the warning evaluation model also provides the relevant experience basis for other types of early warning assessment networks.
