A scientometric analysis of e-participation research

Abstract: Purpose-Due to the increasing demand for public services, as a new form of public governance, e-participation has emerged. Scholars from various disciplines have published plenty of research results on e-participation. This paper aims to reveal the research status frontiers directly by mapping knowledge domains. Design/methodology/approach-The authors take 1,322 articles on e-participation published in Web of Science from 2001 to 2017 as research object. They then run the information visualization software Cit… Show more

“…This helps develop a knowledge base for this field, identify its research trends, understand its theories and methodologies, determine the contributions and suggest potential avenues for future research (Ferreira et al 2014 ). The bibliometric analysis is an innovative methodology aiming to reveal the development and structure and visualize the scientific production in a field of study (Mostafa 2020 ; Qi et al 2018 ). It is applied to explore the knowledge structure in different fields of research, such as Halal food (Mostafa 2020 ), circular economy (Alnajem et al 2021 ), operational research (Argoubi et al 2020 ), innovation (Yahaya et al 2020 ), and corporate governance (Zheng and Kouwenberg 2019 ).…”

“…Although some researchers claim that “research on halal food is still in its infancy” (Aziz & Chok, 2013, p. 5), the PubMed database reveals 302 articles written by 686 authors representing 45 countries over 30 years. Portugal‐Ferreira et al (2014, p. 1902) argued that “researchers should strive to periodically seek some sense of the knowledge produced and accumulated, to identify novel contributions, detect trends and research traditions, understand which topics are addressed, the theories and methods employed, delve into the intellectual structure of the discipline and its knowledge base, and prospect areas of future inquiry.” Mapping a scientific field of study is termed “scientography” (Francisco et al, 2019), which focus on detecting “hidden patterns” in the field graphically (Qi et al, 2018).…”

“…Анализ электронного правительства как научной дисциплины является предметом обсуждений и дискуссий. Предпринимаются различные попытки исследования электронного правительства и электронного участия, в которых проводится систематический обзор литературы, используется систематизация и структурирование метаданных [5][6][7]. Однако, несмотря на растущий интерес к данным темами, имеются некоторые ограничения: а именно недостаток данных о российском сегменте научных публикаций и отсутствие сравнительных исследований международного и российского контекстов.…”
