Abstract: The present study aimed to perform an epidemiological survey on the prevalence rate of oral lesions diagnosed in a referral center in Brazil and to establish association between the lesions and the age and gender of the affected patients. This analytical observational study analyzed 3521 medical records of anatomopathological exams of the Pathological Anatomy and Cytopathology Laboratory of the Cancer Hospital of the state of Mato Grosso (Brazil), from December 2011 to September 2015. “…The role of the oral and maxillofacial surgeon as a dental specialty is very broad, as they are responsible for the management of post-traumatic patients, the performance of biopsies in the oral cavity, excision and resection of tumors, orthognathic surgeries, and management of infections (BRASIL, 2002). This role may be observed in the literature (CUSTÓDIO et al, 2016;VASCONCELOS et al, 2017;VASCONCELOS et al, 2018) and in the results of the present study, in which over one thousand people were assisted by the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology (OMFST) service of the hospital selected and several types of procedures were performed, thus showing the importance of this specialty in the hospital environment.…”

“…The odontogenic tumors represent between 2.3% and 4.7% of all lesions diagnosed in specific anatomic pathology services of the buccomaxillofacial complex [10,11]. The CEOT is also known as Pindborg tumor and is considered a rare pathological entity representing less than 2.5% of all odontogenic tumors [[11], [12], [13]], although a prevalence up to 15% has been found [14].…”

“…A segunda lesão mais prevalente no presente estudo foi a mucocele (5,63%). Os resultados de Vasconcelos et al 22 mostraram a lesão de mucocele como sendo a menos prevalente dentre as lesões estudas (1,61%) enquanto os achados de Silva et al 23 constaram a mucocele como a lesão inflamatória mais prevalente (64%). Entende-se que essa discrepância nos resultados pode ser influenciada pela faixa etária dos pacientes pesquisados.…”
