This study experimentally investigated the performance of a PVT air collector coupled with a triangular block. The triangular block, newly suggested by the authors, is a triangular-shaped obstacle and was inserted at the bottom of the PVT air collector to enhance the heat transfer performance of the collector. The experiment was carried out in actual climate conditions in Korea with two air mass flow rate conditions: 0.03606 kg/m2 s and 0.06948 kg/m2 s. Results show the average values of electrical efficiency of the collector during the test period to be 16.15% and 16.43% for each air mass flow rate, while thermal efficiencies were 28.83% and 38.36%, respectively. The average values of total energy efficiencies were found to be 44.99% and 54.79%, respectively. The results show that air mass flow rate has a large impact on thermal and total energy efficiency, while it has a small impact on electrical efficiency. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the PVT air collector coupled with a triangular block can enhance the utilization of solar energy since the thermal performance was higher than that of the collector without a triangular block.

China’s building energy consumption is growing and the energy consumption of the whole process of buildings accounts for more than 46.5% of the country’s total energy consumption, of which the proportion of energy consumption used for heating, ventilation and air conditioning is as high as 50%. Solar energy has the greatest potential to achieve energy conservation in buildings. Buildings are the best carrier for solar energy utilization because of the advantages of local collection and local application. The combination of solar energy and buildings can meet a variety of energy and health needs in buildings, among which solar photovoltaic and CSP building integration technology is an important way to reduce building energy consumption and improve indoor air quality. This article presents a PV/T-based thermal storage wall system that efficiently utilizes solar energy. It outlines the PV/T technology’s fundamental principles and provides a detailed description of the system’s construction and operation, highlighting critical components like the solid thermal storage medium and heat transfer via a heat pump. The analysis indicates improved energy utilization and favorable economic feasibility. This technology offers a practical solution for the construction industry, promoting sustainable energy practices and environmental conservation.

The operating temperature increase in solar photovoltaic modules is a major problem, which affects their performance negatively. This numerical study introduces the effect of natural convection air‐cooling on the performance a novel hybrid photovoltaic/thermal collector. The standard k‐ε turbulence model is implemented for describing the turbulent natural convection. For improving the heat transfer rate of a novel photovoltaic/thermal collector system (PV/T), a sloped entrance channel (SEC) and an aluminum flat plate (AFP) were installed. The effects of SEC geometry parameters, the number of AFP and their distance to the photovoltaic module (PV) on the average Nusselt number are investigated. In addition, the effect of the PV/T system tilt angle and Rayleigh number on the thermo‐hydrodynamic flow behavior has been discussed. The results indicated that the heat transfer rate of the new hybrid PV/T system was improved by up to 20%, compared to the reference case without an aluminum flat plate. In addition, increasing the tilt angle of the PV/T system boosts airflow velocity, particularly for high Rayleigh number values (with and without AFP). Furthermore, several correlations, as functions of Rayleigh numbers and inlet channel dimensions, have been developed to predict the average Nusselt number.
