A Review on Preparation and Applications of Silver-Containing Nanofibers

Abstract: Silver-containing nanofibers are of great interest recently because of the dual benefits from silver particles and nanofibers. Silver nanoparticles are extensively used for biomedical applications due to the antibacterial and antiviral properties. In addition, silver nanoparticles can excite resonance effect of light trapping when pairing with dielectric materials, such as polymer. Comparing to the traditional fabrics, polymer nanofibers can provide larger number of reaction sites and higher permeability contr… Show more

“…The NPs preferably break down the cell wall of the microorganism and attack the respiration chain and cell division, finally leading to the cell death. [45][46][47] In addition, metallic Ag reacts with moisture and gets ionized; the ionized Ag is highly active in comparison to metallic Ag. Especially under visible light, many reactive species (⋅O 2 -, ⋅OH, photo-generated holes and electrons) are created on cellulose cotton surface.…”

“…In particular, silver oxalate is a highly demanded material due to its use as a precursor for the production of silver nanoparticles which are incorporated in coatings, nanofibers, thin films, pigments, first aid bandages plastics, soaps, skin care products, and textiles. [47,60,61] Metallic ions as zinc and silver, have antimicrobial effects and therefore they are added at the stage of synthesis to a large number of compounds used as dental composites and in artificial bone materials. [62] Due to the importance of the thermal decomposition of silver oxalate, it has been studied using theoretical solid-state methods.…”

“…Silverhasbeenusedinartandjewelleryfor millennia, and it is nowadays ubiquitously adopted for technologically important devices such as catalysts, [1] electric equipment, [2] and localized surface-plasmon nanochips. [3] These applications share ac ommon problem:s ilver corrosion, where the early stage is called tarnishing.A gc orrosion is critical in the electronics industry, [2][3][4] since Ag is used in printed circuit boards (PCBs) as af inish material and both to build electronic components and to assemble them on PCBs.…”
