Purpose: The paper aims at proposing a framework and demonstrating application of the framework to evaluate and select the appropriate location for Urban Distribution Center (UDC) in Yogyakarta Special Region Province, Indonesia.Design/methodology/approach: The proposed framework consists two steps of analysis. First, spatial analysis to generate alternative locations using weighted Geographical Information System (GIS) data; second, multi-criteria decision-making to select of the best location. Multi-criteria decision-making method based on fuzzy logic was applied to deal with uncertainty. Accessibility, security, connectivity of multi-modal transport, costs, environmental impact, proximity to customers, proximity to suppliers, resource availability, expansion possibility, service quality, are taken as the decision criteria.Findings: The proposed framework has been able to explain the unsuitability of Jogja Inland Port. Results further indicate that Jogja Inland Port appears to be the worst alternative, whereas the best location for UDC is located in Berbah (Sleman district) where a joint warehouse managed by a group of private companies has existed.Research limitations/implications: As the study has involved the government, experts, and practitioners, future research could engage local residents as decision makers to refine the results, as various stakeholders may have different preferences.Practical implications: From a practical point of view, the present study provides insights to the government to the application of combined approach in determining UDC location as well as evaluation toward the acceptability of Jogja Inland Port.Social implications: The unsuccessful establishment of Jogja Inland Port implies that associated stakeholders, i.e., government, practitioners, residents, should be taken into consideration when planning Urban Distribution Center (UDC) establishment.Originality/value: The research proposes a framework to evaluate and select the appropriate location for Urban Distribution Center (UDC) through combined approach of spatial analysis and multi-criteria decision-making which involves relevant stakeholders.

Goal: This research aims to examine the trade-off behaviour between productivity, quality and maintenance performance and evaluate the efficiency of the framework integrated to a time variability in operational management. Design / Methodology / Approach: The proposed framework integrates a stochastic analysis of process and TVM to manage process variability and analyse the trade-off behaviour between quality, productivity, and maintenance efficiency. The framework generates a control chart for each workstation and analyses the operator's time to execute an assembly process for six workstations. The processes are characterised and evaluated via stochastic simulation, resulting in a trade-off analysis with a multicriteria approach. Results: A relational graphic of performance dimensions shows that productivity and maintenance performance have a high dependency on time variability management, whereas quality has a minor impact over trade-off decisions. The proposed framework has a huge significance to operational management which allow to apply complex models to time variability analysis and organisation performance. Limitations of the investigation: The trade-off analysis in this study is limited to a constant trade-off model to validate the framework. Practical implications: This framework, used in association with traditional management philosophies, is a powerful tool that permits managers to develop a trade-off analysis and make decisions on workstations. Thus, a research field that correlates time variability with performance dimensions may be validated by this framework. Originality / Value: A framework that allows the use of MCDM to analyse the trade-off behaviour on organization performance and a trade-off analysis between performance dimensions and time variability management in operational performance.

Multi-attribute decision making (MADM) always suffers from the result inconsistency and computational complexity problem, due to numbers of redundant and relational attributes (indexes) of the initial evaluation index system. Therefore, this paper studies the index system (IS) reduction problem through selecting the most representative indicator from each index subsystem after the IS structure partition. First, we propose and demonstrate the Index Subsystem Judgement theorem to improve the efficiency of the classic system structure partition algorithm. Second, an algorithm of index system reduction based on the index similarity (ISRS) is put forward. The ISRS is able to reduce the index quantity while still keeping the index meaning. Third, we define the direction loss rate to measure the evaluation ability loss of the IS during reduction. The algorithm is tested for a synthetic dataset to compare the proposed ISRS with different index reduction algorithms, followed by an extensive experimentation with a real-world financial dataset. Experiment results illustrate that our proposed method is able to obtain more accessible and available reduction results in practice.
