The studies on antibacterial activity of 16 samples of Salvia stepposa (steppe sage) ethanolic extracts, an indigenous plant of Central Kazakhstan, against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538), Bacillus subtilis (ATCC 6633), Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922), Candida albicans (ATCC 10231) were assayed. Leaves and flowers of Salvia stepposa were extracted by ethanol 30, 40, 70 and 90 % using conventional and microwave extraction. Antibacterial screening performed by disc-diffusion method was conducted, the concentration of all extracts was 100 mg/mL. The results revealed that the highest activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis have leaves and flowers extract of steppe sage in all solvents except 70 % microwave leaf extract. The only extract that showed antibacterial activity against all strains of microorganisms used is 40 % microwave leaf extract of steppe sage with growth inhibition zones for Staphylococcus aureus 23.5 0.65 mm, for Bacillus subtilis 38 1.3 mm, for Escherichia coli 16.5 1.72 mm, for Candida albicans 16 2.6 mm, respectively. Was found that 70 % of leaf extract of the steppe sage obtained under microwave irradiation has the lowest activity. The MIC values for tested extracts were evaluated too. HIGHLIGHTS Salvia stepposa is a widespread plant on the territory of Kazakhstan the properties of which still remain unexplored Antibacterial activity and MIC of 16 examples obtained different methods was evaluated MAE is an interesting alternative to CE of extracting plant raw materials, which can reduce extraction time and energy consumption

Diuresis can be beneficial in removing toxins from the body. Globally traditional and folklore medicines plays a vital role in health care services. Plectranthus amboinicus belongs to Lamiaceae family is an Indian medicinal plant which has been utilized traditionally to treat various diseases. However, there is no systematic methodology for the use of Plectranthus amboinicus stem as a diuretic. Hence the present study is proposed to evaluate the diuretic activity of various solvent extract of Plectranthus amboinicus stem in the rat model. The acute toxicity study was performed in albino mice by fixed-dose method (OECD guidelines number 425) of CPCSEA. The diuretic activity was carried out using the Lipschitz method. The total urine volume collected in 24hours was observed. Sodium, potassium and chloride concentration in urine were also recorded. The ionic concentrations were recorded calorimetrically. Acute toxicity study proved no toxicity and mortality in any of the animal up to the dose of 2000mg/kg bodyweight. All three extracts of Plectranthus amboinicus have exhibited dose-dependent diuretic activity by increasing urine volume and excreting sodium ions in urine. The urine pH was also elevated. From the study, it can be concluded that the plant Plectranthus amboinicus could be considered as a diuretic agent. This current study encourages the use of this plant in folk medicine. Further study is required for isolation, characterization and formulation of the active constituents responsible for its diuretic activity.

Seagrass are the marine flowering plants found mainly in clear, shallow estuaries and coastal waters. In all temperate and trophical region seagrasses grow both internally and subtidally. One such seagrass namely Syringodium isoetifolium has many medicinal properities. This seagrass have most promising pharmacological activities which may include anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antidiarrheal, antihaemorrhoidal activities. This study is focussed on the phytochemical evaluation and in vitro antioxidant activity of aqueous, ethanol and hydroalcoholic extract of Syringodium isoetifolium. The qualitative analysis of Syringodium isoetifolium shows the presence of tannin, saponin, flavonoids, steroids, terpenoids, alkaloids, anthraquinone, polyphenol and coumarin. In all the three extracts only ethanol shows the high concentration of phytocompounds. Emodins, glycoside and anthocyanin were found to be absent in all the three extracts. Quantitative analysis of total phenol, flavonoid, saponin and tannin were found to be 193.10 ±13.52, 106.11 ± 7.42, 52.96 ± 3.64 and 81.30 ± 5.69. Superoxide anion radical, Nitric oxide and Hydroxy radical scavenging assay showed that Syringodium isoetifolium was an excellent scavenger of these radicals. These results are an indication of the potent antioxidant property of the extract and may be responsible for some of the therapeutic uses of Syringodium isoetifolium.
