O objetivo desse trabalho é investigar a corrosão e a microestrutura no compósito cimentício autoadensável com a substituição do agregado miúdo por resíduo de vidro. Uma das patologias mais frequentes encontradas no concreto armado é a corrosão de armaduras que envolve riscos à segurança da estrutura. Entre as várias técnicas para se estudar e avaliar a corrosão neste trabalho foi escolhida a espectroscopia de impedância eletroquímica (EIE) que caracteriza uma grande variedade de sistemas eletroquímicos. Foram moldados corpos de prova no traço de 1:1:0,1:0,43 sendo um de referência (sem adição de resíduo), outros com substituição de 5%, 10%, 15% e 20% em resíduo de vidro, em relação ao agregado miúdo. A escolha do circuito equivalente foi diferente dependendo da quantidade de materiais utilizados, para a amostra referência foi utilizado um circuito resistivo em série com um segundo circuito em paralelo composto por uma resistência R e um elemento de fase CPE. Para as misturas com resíduo de vidro foi acrescentado mais um circuito paralelo R/CPE. Também foram realizadas micrografias obtidas através da microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV) e espectrometria de energia dispersiva de raios X (EDS). Os resultados demostraram que a amostra referência apresenta um circuito proposto por Randles e as amostras 5% a 20% apresentam um circuito equivalente de Christensen. A análise do EDS para todas as amostras observou-se como o Fe que é um dos elementos constituintes regulares da matriz de cimento e também o Ca, C, Mg, Na, Al, Si que são os elementos constituintes do vidro.

Cracking is one of the main ways that concrete ages, allowing pollutants to seep within and potentially lowering the physical and mechanical strength and endurance of concrete structures. One of the healing procedures that merits research is the use of bacterially generated calcium carbonate precipitation in concrete mixtures to mend concrete cracks. The impact of different variables, including the nucleation location, bacterial type, concentration, uratolytic activities, pH, nutrition, and temperature on the bio-mineralization of calcium carbonate are discussed in this review article. ATR-IR (Attenuated Internal Reflectance Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy)/FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy)/NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) and FESEM (Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope) are among the micro test techniques reviewed along with the biosynthetic pathway of bio mineralized calcium carbonate. The sealing ability and recovery of mechanical and durability properties of bio-mineralized concrete specimen is discussed. Moreover, we discussed the corrosion, damages, and challenges and their detection methods. Also, in-depth knowledge on the use, advancements, and drawbacks of bio-mineralized calcium carbonate is presented. Future potential for bio-mineralized (MICP) self-healing concrete are discussed in the final section.

Preparation and Characterization of Electromagnetic-Induced Rupture Microcapsules for Self-Repairing Mortars

Cement-based materials are susceptible to internal cracks during service, leading to a reduction in their durability. Microcapsules can effectively self-repair cracks in cement-based materials. In this study, novel electromagnetic-induced rupture microcapsules (DWMs) were prepared by using the melt dispersion method with Fe3O4 nano-particles/polyethylene wax as the shell and epoxy resin as the repairing agent. The core fraction, compactness, particle size distribution, morphology, and chemical structure of DWMs were characterized. DWMs were subsequently incorporated into the mortar to measure the pore size distribution, compressive strength recovery, and maximum amplitudes of the pre-damaged mortar after self-repairing. DWMs were also evaluated for their ability to self-repair cracks on mortar surfaces. The results showed that the core fraction, remaining weight (30 days), and mean size of DWMs were 72.5%, 97.6 g, and 220 μm, respectively. SEM showed that the DWMs were regular spherical with a rough surface and could form a good bond with cement matrix. FTIR indicated that the epoxy resin was successfully encapsulated in the Fe3O4 nano-particles/polyethylene wax. After 15 days of self-repairing, the harmful pore ratio, compressive strength recovery, and maximum amplitude of the pre-damaged mortars were 48.97%, 91.9%, and 24.03 mV, respectively. The mortar with an initial crack width of 0.4–0.5 mm was self-repaired within 7 days. This indicated that the incorporation of DWMs can improve the self-repair ability of the mortar. This work is expected to provide new insights to address the mechanism of microcapsule rupture in self-repairing cement-based materials.
