This study presents new geochronological and geochemical data for early Paleozoic igneous rocks of the Zhangguangcai Range, northeastern China, and uses these data to further define the early Paleozoic tectonic evolution of the Songnen-Zhangguangcai Range block (SZB) and the Jiamusi block, and provide insights into crustal growth and reworking processes in these blocks of the eastern Central Asian Orogenic Belt. New zircon U-Pb data indicate widespread early Paleozoic magmatism (ca. 516, and 426 Ma) in the southeastern SZB. The ca. 516 Ma magmatism formed Na-rich tonalites that contain low concentrations of rare earth elements, are enriched in Eu and Sr, have high CaO/Al 2 O 3 and Ba/La ratios, low Rb/Sr and Rb/Ba ratios, and negative Ce anomalies and zircon ε Hf (t) values. These features suggest an origin from magmas generated by partial melting of ancient accumulated gabbroic rocks with the addition of subducted-sediment-derived fluids. The ca. 496-482 Ma magmatism formed calc-alkaline I-type biotite granodiorites and monzogranites, whereas the ca. 475-461 Ma igneous rocks include biotite monzogranites with K-rich adakitic signatures and alkali-feldspar granites. These ca. 496-461 Ma granitoids have zircon ε Hf (t) values from -0.82 to +5.44 and two-stage depleted-mantle model (T DM2 ) ages of 1490-1103 Ma, suggesting they formed from magmas generated by partial melting of heterogeneous Mesoproterozoic lower crustal material. The ca. 426 Ma Na-rich tonalites are geochemically similar to the ca. 516 Ma tonalites and also originated by partial melting of ancient gabbroic or amphibolitic rocks with the involvement of subducted-sediment-derived fluids. The geochemistry of these early Paleozoic igneous rock assemblages is indicative of formation in an active continental margin setting associated with northwestward subduction beneath the southeastern SZB. The zircon Hf isotopic compositions of these early Paleozoic igneous rocks indicate that Paleoproterozoic-Mesoproterozoic crustal material was reworked during the early Paleozoic subduction-and collision-related tectonism.

When the Paleo‐Asian Ocean closed and the Paleo‐Pacific subduction started in NE China remains controversial. To constrain these key issues, we carried out zircon U‐Pb‐Hf isotopic and whole‐rock geochemical studies of Early Mesozoic igneous rocks in central southern Jilin Province, NE China. Early Mesozoic igneous rocks in region were formed at three stages: the middle Triassic (246 Ma), the late Triassic (219–220 Ma), and the early Jurassic (172–194 Ma). Middle Triassic trachyandesites in southern Jilin Province were solely generated through partial melting of ancient lower crust of the North China Craton (NCC), implying ongoing southward subduction of Paleo‐Asian Ocean Plate beneath the NCC at this time. Late Triassic trachyandesites in southern Jilin Province were derived from the magma mixing/mingling of the NCC lithospheric mantle and juvenile eastern Central Asian Orogenic Belt crustal sources. Late Triassic hornblende gabbros in central Jilin Province were derived from depleted lithospheric mantle previously metasomatized by subduction‐related fluids. Coeval adakitic granodiorites were likely produced through the partial melting of thickened juvenile lower crust. Spatially, these rocks occurred on both sides of the Solonker‐Xra‐Moron‐Changchun Suture Zone and record N–S directed extension accompanied by the final closure of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean. Early Jurassic andesites were produced through mixing/mingling between partial melts derived from eastern Central Asian Orogenic Belt lithospheric mantle and ancient NCC crust. In contrast, Early Jurassic felsic rocks, including A‐type granites, were derived from the partial melting of Neoproterozoic accreted lower crust, jointly implying an extensional setting as the result of the initial subduction from Paleo‐Pacific Plate at this time.

The Changchun-Yanji suture in Jilin Province, NE China is generally interpreted to mark the closure position of the Paleo-Asian Ocean along the north margin of the North China Craton. However, the issue about the earlymiddle Paleozoic tectonic evolution in this region has long been debated. In order to provide evidence for resolving this issue, we carried out a geochemical and zircon U-Pb-Hf study on the Fangniugou and Taoshan volcanic rocks from the Fangniugou area of Jilin Province, in the Changchun-Yanji suture zone. Laser ablationinductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) zircon U-Pb dating indicates that the Fangniugou volcanic rocks are products of at least two volcanic events (~425 and 390 Ma) and that episodes of magmatism existed in Jilin Province during the early-middle Paleozoic period. These rocks, in conjunction with relevant data from the literature, indicate that early-middle Paleozoic magmatism occurred along the Changchun-Yanji suture. The volcanic rocks belong to medium-to high-K calc-alkaline series and display features of I-type granites of subduction-related igneous rocks. During the late Silurian-middle Devonian, the Y and Yb concentrations progressively decreased with time, accompanied by an increase in K 2 O concentrations and (La/Yb) N values, indicating a process of crustal thickening. This interpretation is supported by the presence of early Paleozoic arc igneous rocks and the formation of early Devonian molasse in central Jilin Province. Zircon grains separated from the rocks have high ε Hf (t) values and two-stage Hf model (T DM2 ) ages varying from +4.92-8.76 and 0.84-1.09 Ga, respectively. All these characteristics, in conjunction with trace element features, suggest that the late Silurian rocks were generated by partial melting of a depleted mafic lower crust in a subduction zone setting, whereas the middle Devonian rocks were derived from partial melting of a thickened lower crust the most probably related to a collisional event.
