Continuous crystallization in tubular crystallizers is of particular interest to the pharmaceutical industry to accurately control average particle size, particle size distribution, and (polymorphic) shape. However, these types of crystallizers require fast nucleation, and thus, short induction times at the beginning of the flow process, which is challenging for larger and complex organic molecules. High shear and/or the presence of bubbles were identified to influence the nucleation behavior. This work investigates the effects of both high-shear mixing and ultrasound on the anti-solvent crystallization of paracetamol in acetone-water. Both devices generate intense amounts of shear and gas bubbles. Generally, the results show that increasing input power decreases the induction time significantly for both the rotor-stator mixer and ultrasound probe. However, the induction time is almost independent of the supersaturation for the ultrasound probe, while the induction time significantly increases with decreasing supersaturation for the rotor-stator mixer. In contrast, the particle size distribution for the rotor-stator mixer is independent of the supersaturation, while increasing supersaturation decreases the particle size for the ultrasound probe.

Refused-Derived Fuel (RDF) in global energy demand plants has risen over the past decades as a sustainable secondary supply of energy resources. Food waste as a significant fraction of municipal solid waste (MSW) has a great potential for energy production especially in developing country such as Indonesia. To date, many industries focus on drying technologies development for utilization of food waste for energy conversion. Lowering moisture content of food waste is essential to improve RDF heating value (LHV) and further to avoid more steam generation in the combustor. Vaporization of the moisture in fuel consumes a portion of the available energy. The review highlights a number of drying technology application for RDF including direct and indirect steam drying. Furthermore, the review highlights the considerable opportunity for further development of dryer application for Indonesia"s cement industry.

Over the past decades, there has been an escalating rise in the need for chemicals and catalytic materials to keep up with global demands. Addressing those issues by conventional methods often becomes inefficient, with myriad operational risks. Process intensification methods through procedural and equipment‐based modifications have been considered greener, have higher heat and mass transfer rates, and operate with lower costs. In this review, research using ultrasonic reactors and microreactors, along with developments through an integrated external energy source, for synthesizing acrylic microspheres is covered extensively. Acrylic microspheres have garnered much interest for their biocompatibility, affinity toward functionalization, and wide range of applications. Core–shell, composite, functional‐group modified, and porous acrylic microspheres are used for enzyme immobilization and as catalyst carriers. The use of acrylic support has provided huge improvements in catalytic activity, reusability, recyclability, and overall stability. Finally, various other process intensification methods and alternate support materials are covered to help enhance future developments in the field of catalysis.
