A Review of Integrated Motor Drive and Wide-Bandgap Power Electronics for High-Performance Electro-Hydrostatic Actuators

Abstract: An integration of an electric motor and a drive with wide-bandgap (WBG) devices possesses numerous attractive features for electrified and decentralized actuation systems. The WBG devices can operate at a high-junction temperature (>170°C) with improved efficiency due to fast switching speed and low on-state resistance. It also leads to better performance and higher power density electro-hydrostatic actuators (EHAs) than the traditional solutions, which are being widely adopted in industrial applications such … Show more

“…The variation of phase resistance is ignored in most of the previous flux linkage measurement methods, which leads to the estimated position error. According to (1) and (2), the relationship between the measured flux linkage error and estimated resistance error is Equation 21indicates the sign of the flux linkage error is opposite to that of the resistance error, and its value is related to the resistance error and the integral of current. “…A lateral two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) channel has high electron mobility on AlGaN/GaN heteroepitaxy, which enables fast switching transients with a low capacitance property. To utilize these advantages, recently, AC motor drive systems with WBG devices have been studied [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]. In ref.…”

“…With the imminent electrification of many of our current transport systems, there is a need for high performance power switching electronics for uses such as electric/hybrid vehicles, grid scale energy storage, industrial machinery control, and military systems. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] In such cases, power electronics are responsible for the controlled transmission and conversion of electric energy for the appropriate end-use. Electronic switching devices based on materials such as Ga 2 O 3 , GaN, and SiC have great potential for these uses.…”
