A Review of Influence of Various Types of Structural Bracing to the Structural Performance of Buildings

Abstract: Abstract. Excessive lateral drift can contribute significantly towards crack formation, leading to structural damage. The structural damage will in turn reduce the capacity of the structure and weaken it from the intended design capacity. Generally, lateral drift is more pronounced in higher and longer structure, such as high rise buildings and bridges. A typical method employed to control lateral drift is structural bracing, which works by increasing stiffness and stability of structure. This paper reviews th… Show more

“…By firmly using the design moment capacity, it is possible to determine the design bending moment that results from the irregular stresses on the beams. The width-to-thickness ratio and slenderness of the braces influence the factor that affects the seismic execution of the concentrically braced frame [6].…”

“…The Dewitt-Chestnut Building in Chicago, constructed in 1965, was one of the rst structures to use structural bracing. Fazlur R. Khan's frame tube system, which was employed for the construction, was used (Razak et al 2018). The braced tube system was created later in 1970 by Fazlur R. Khan for the John Hancock Center, also in Chicago.…”
