A new gall midge, here named Asphondylia daphnandrae Kolesik sp. nov., is described and a segment of its cytochrome oxidase unit I mitochondrial gene is sequenced. Asphondylia daphnandrae is significant as the first gall midge known to feed on a plant from the family Atherospermataceae (Laurales). The host plant tree Daphnandra johnsonii is endemic to the Illawarra region, New South Wales, Australia, and is currently threatened with extinction. Larvae of the new species of gall midge were found feeding inside deformed fruits, impeding the sexual reproduction of this endangered plant species.

An undescribed species of gall midge causing hairy spheroidal leaf galls on Rubus nebulosus and Rubus moorei (Rosaceae) in subtropical Australia was investigated in a study on the dynamics of parasitoids of gall-inducing insects. Here, the gall midge is described and named Psephodiplosis rubi Kolesik, sp. nov. in a new genus Psephodiplosis Kolesik, gen. nov. (supertribe Cecidomyiidi) erected to contain it. The new species is the first described gall midge that induces galls on Rosaceae in Australia. Similar galls have been found previously on Rubus moluccanus in Indonesia and on Rubus alceifolius in Thailand, so it is possible that the geographical range of Psephodiplosis rubi includes not only Australia, but also countries of South East Asia.

Özet Zeytin kabuk sineği Resseliella oleisuga (Targioni-Tozzetti, 1887) (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) erginleri, zeytinin ince dal ve gövdelerindeki kabuklara yumurtalarını koyarlar. Yumurtadan çıkan larvalar kabuk altında bir arada yaşarlar ve kambiyumda beslenirler. Yumurta bırakıldığı kabuk çevresinde nekroza sebep olarak sürgünlerin kurumasına neden olurlar. R. oleisuga zararını ve infeksiyon seviyesini belirlemek amacıyla 2008-2013 yılları arasında yedi ilde sürvey çalışması yürütülmüştür. R. oleisuga ile zeytin bahçelerinin %27'si bulaşık bulunmuş, en yüksek oran Hatay %36 ve en düşük oran %18 Mersin illerinde belirlenmiştir. Bulaşıklık oranı Kahramanmaraş'ta %34, Gaziantep'de %33, Kilis'te %31, Osmaniye'de %22 ve Adana'da %19 olarak bulunmuştur. Ağaçlardaki zarar oranı %0.05'den %13'e kadar değişmiştir.
